UNITED ,STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VALENTIN WEBER, OF PRINOEVILLE, AND JAMES R. HARRISON, OF PEORIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO VILLIAM HARRISON, OFY PEORIA COUNTY,
ILLINOIS.
\ GRAIN-ELEVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,614, dated December 1'7, 1889.
Application filed J'uly 30, 1889.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, VALENTIN WEBER, residing at Princeville, and JAMES R. HAR- RISON, residing at Peoria, in the county of 5 Peoria and State of Illinois, citizens of the United States, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Elevators; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact' description of the in- Io vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same.
This invention is ,of that class of implements designed toassist in the elevation of grain.
The object of this invention is to provide a boot forptheA elevator-buckets which will admit the grain from either side thereof to [low to the buckets through openings provided therefor, and to provide means by which the tube and boot may be relatively moved and adjusted to deliver the grain ata higher or lower point. Ve make the elcvator-boot, as well as the box or tube, of any ordinary form and of ordinary Inaterials.
Figure 1 of the drawings shows a perspective view of the elevator tube and boot. Fig. 2 shows a front or rear elevation of the same, with the funnel C and cover or door D, for the several openings in the boot. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the boot, with the lower extremity of the tube shown at A therein. It also shows the lower extremity of the partition running through the boX, on each side of which the elevator-buckets run.
The box or tube A slides within the boot B, to adjust t-he delivery of grain at the desired height, and when adjusted may be fastenedwith bolts or screws. The partition through this tube (shown at X) must be lengthened or shortened to conform to Ihe adjustment. NVe do this by cutting off portions of its lower extremity, as'shown at Fig. 3, which Inay be taken out or replaced and fastened in position by bolts or screws.
We provide the elevator-boot with two openings on opposite sides thereof, as shown at O O. These are for the admission of grain to the buckets. We provide one of these openings with a funnel, (shown at C, Fig. 2,) while the other opening is provided with a cover or door, (shown at D, Fig. 2.) This Serial No. 319,219. (No model.)
cover D and the funnel C are so made as to be mutually interchangeable from side to side of the boot.
The operation is as follows: If it is desired to receive grain on t-he righthand side of the boot, the funnel is placed upon that side to direct the flow of grain through the opening O on that side to the elevator-buckets, while the door D is fastened upon the other side to close the other opening O, to prevent the escape of grain therefrom. The removal of the bolts or screws fastening these enables them to be easily changed from side to side, and the one substituted for the other, as desired.
1What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The elevator-boot B, with its two openings O O on opposite sides thereof, severally provided with the funnel C and the cover or door D, arranged to be conveniently interchanged from side to side, as described, as and for the purpose specified.
2. In an elevator for grain, the tube and boot relatively adjustable for delivering grain at the desired height, said boot being provided with openings on opposite sides, and the funnel C and door v,D, mutuallyinterchangeable, as and for the purposes described.
3. An elevator-boot having openings O O of same, whereby said boot is adapted to rechange of the funnel C and door D, in the manner and for the purpose specified.
' 4l. An elevator-boot B, having openings on opposite sides thereof, and respectively provided with a funnel C and door D, interchangeable, as specified.
5. In an elevator, the boot B, having the openings O O on opposite sides thereof, and provided with the funnel C and door D, adapted to be interchanged from one side to the other, iu combination with the tube A and adjustablein said boot, as set forth.
