UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
FRIEDRICH PELZER, OF DORTMUND, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
CENTRIFUGAL FAN.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. l116,070,dated. November 26, 1889.
Application filed December 11, 1888. Serial No. 293,279. (Model.) Patented in Germany August 5, 1887, No. 43,318, and in England October 10, 1887, No. 18,678.
To aZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH PELZEE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Dortmund, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Centrifugal Fans, (for which Letters Patent have been obtained by me in Germany, No. 43,5318, August 5, 1887, and in England, No.1 3,678, provisional, of date October 10, 1887,) which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in centrifugal fans or ventilators,'the object being the production of a device of the character mentioned which will be thoroughly ef fective for the purpose intended. y
To attain the desired end the invention con sists of a centrifugal fan or ventilator comprising a wheel having a closed end, With the spokes or arms thereof forming dischargepassages, and wings forming a screw for conducting the air to said passages, as hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
'Figure l represents a perspective view of a centrifugal fan or ventilator embodying my invention. Fi g. 2 represents a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 represents a diainetrical section thereof. Fig. a represents a plan view of one of the wings. Fig. 5 represents sections thereof on lines respectively a b c d e.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a Vshaft on which the fan is mounted.
B designates the hub of the device, and O designates a cone secured to the hub and forming the closed end of the device.
D designates arms, spokes, or paddles secured to the hub and to the cone, the hub, cone, and spokes forming a Wheel and the divisions formed by the spokes or arms forming y discharge-passages D for the air or iiuid.
E designates a rim or band surrounding the upper edges of the spokes or arms and being secured thereto.
F designates the'wings of the device, Which are each formed of a triangular piece, one of of the sides thereof being straight lined and the other two being convex, as shown in Fig.
et, and which are attached at their inner or 5o straight-line ends to the spokesand at their out-er ends secured to said rim.
From this construction it will be seen that a peculiar-curve is given to the wings, forining pockets, which enables them to eectually draw in the air, and also that said Wings discharge the air into the passages D. It is also evident that by the peculiar shape of the wings and the manner of attaching them said Wings will draw the air in at the center of the 6o device and discharge it through the passages at the periphery thereof, this construction insuring a rapid and perfect exhaustion of the air or iiuid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A centrifugal fan or ventilator having a conical closed end secured to a central hub,
arms or spokes secured to said conical end 7o wings consisting of triangular pieces secured 8o to the end of the arms and to the inner side of the rim, forming pockets, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH PELZER. Witnesses:
Joris. ScHLssER, ALBERT AssMANN.
