EGG-BEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,733, dated November 26, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES ALBERT PERRY, of Yarmouth, in the county of Yarmouth, Province of Nova Scotia, Dominion of Canada,
have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a description sufficiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which said invention apper- IO tains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification, in whicl Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved eggbeater, a portion of the body-walls being broken away to show the interior; Fig. 2, a sectional view showing the beater proper in side elevation, and Figs. 3 and t Views illustrating certain details of construction.

My invention relates to a combined egg beater and holder; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, the object being to produce a simpler, cheaper, and more effective device of this character than. is now in ordinary use.
The nature and operation of the improvement will be readily understood by all con versant with such matters from the following explanation.
In the drawings, A represents the holder, and B the beater proper, considered as a whole. The holder is cylindrical in form and provided with a clcse-fitting cover I). Thebottom (Z of the holder is hemispherical, the walls f thereof extending below said bottom. A rotating shaft g, provided at one end with a crank-handle 77,, is loosely j'ournaled horizon- 4o tally in bearings i, secured within the holder at the upper edge of its bottom (Z, the end of said shaft opposite its handle being screwthreaded at k. Three semicircular arms in are secured in hubs 29, said hubs being preferably composed of lead or similar material.
Each of said arms is provided with diagonally-arranged beater-blades q, said blades being disposed horizontally or parallel with the shaft 9 when in position. Each of the hubs p is provided with a central opening to receive the shaft, its threaded end it being turned into the opening of one of said hubs, thereby securing the beater proper on the shaft.
In the use of my improvement, the parts being in position, as described, the eggs are disposed in the holder and the shaft rotated. The blades q, being arranged diagonally, are at an angle to the horizontal diameter of the spherical bottom in all positions assumed by the rotating arms, thus affording large beating-surface.
To clean the churn, the beater proper B is held stationary and the shaft turned backward until its threaded end 70 is turned out from the hub p, when said shaft may readily be withdrawn from the holder and the beater proper removed.
Instead of journaling the shaft-in bearings i, a V-shaped smooth-surfaced lug 00' (see Fig. 4) may be formed on the wall of the holder, in which the threaded end of said shaft may rest, thereby preventing the egg from oozing through the opening around said shaft where it projects through the wall of the holder. A washer v on the shaft near the handle closes the opening in the holder at that end.
Having thus explained my invention, What I claim is The combination of a cylindrical body liav- 8o ing a hemispherical bottom, a crank-shaft journaled in said body and provided with a screw-thread near one end, and a detachable beater on said shaft, said beater comprising hubs on said shaft, one of which is on the screw-threaded portion thereof, semicircular arms secured to said hubs, and inclined blades secured to said arms, substantially as described.
