UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS J. DANIEL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF PART TO MARTIN V. MEDART, SAMUEL H. BAUMAN, AND MORRIS LOEYVENSTEIN, ALL OF SAME PLACE.
WINDOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,095, dated November 12, 1889.
Application filed December 10, 1888. Serial No. 293,185. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in WVindow Frames and Sash; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a' full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to that class of win- (low-frames in which the sash is capable of ready reversal for the purpose of cleaning and washing the glass, &c.; and the present improvement has for its object to provide an improved construction -of parts to admit of such ready and convenient reversal of the window-sash, and which embodies the features of great simplicity and cheapness, as well as durability of the parts and ability to withstand ordinary usage. I attain such object by the construction of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a window frame and sash illustrating my invention, the sash being shown in their usual position; Fig. 2, a similar view with the sash out of position in the frame, convenient for handling.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both views.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the window frame or casing; B, the upper, and O the lower, sash.
My present invention consists in dividing the inner stop D and the parting stop E a short distance below their mid-length, as shown, and pivoting them at their extreme upper end to the sides of the window-frame 0 by pivot-screws (l e, or other equivalent means,
so that they can be swung out laterally, so
that when the sash are raised to the top of the window-frame they can be readily removed from the frame to be readily handled as the convenience of the person may suggest.
F is a latch-bolt or fastening of any suitable construction for connecting the sections of the inner stop D together when the sash are put back in place.
My present improvement is designed for use in connection with sash hung by the ordinary cords and weights, the cords acting as a means for supporting one end of the sash while the same is being handled either in cleaning, glazing, or pain-ting the same.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a window-sash hav- 6o ing the ordinary sliding windows provided with the usual weights and cords and the divided parting stops or strips D and E, the upper portions of which are pivoted so as to swing at right angles to the plane of the sash, whereby the sashes are adapted tobe swung out independently of the movable portions of the stops when said movable port-ions are swung out, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a window-sash hav- 7o ing the ordinary sliding windows, the divided parting stops or strips D and E, having pivoted portions adapted to swing out independently of the windows, and a single fastening for securing the meeting ends of the parts of the inner stop D, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof Witness my hand this 24th day of November, 1888.
THOMAS J. DANIEL.
In presence of O. M. NEwBoLD, F. G. SPOHER.
