IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-POWERS.

Specitication forming part of Letters Patent No. 4l,493, dated February 9, 1864.

Improved Equalizer for Horse-Powers; and IV do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

My object is to make a simple and e'ective equalizer.

I attach the team to the hook a, which hook has behind it the ring b, which connects itwith the chain c, which passes through the stopper d and about the pulley e and through the stopper f, and connects with the ring g, and thus to the rod h, and thus with the circuit of rods i, (marked i i t' L) there being as many rods in the circuit as there are teams employed, or arms to the power. On each arm there is the same device as on the arm j, and

' in the same manner connected with the circuit. When the team on the hook afalls back or neglects to draw, the ring b comes in contact with the stopper d, and thus the backward action ofthe device is limited, and when the team draws too much the ring' gis drawn in contact with the stopperf, which limits the forward action of the device.

The uses and action ofthe power and equalizer are apparent to those skilled in the art to which it appertains.v

In constructing a horse-power equalizer, the

chain o and pulley e, when placed directly upon the equalizing-circuitfi and combined with the rings I and g and Stoppers d and f, as described and arranged, for the purposes specied.
