SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,867, dated November 12, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, .IOSEPH K. MOFFETT, of lVa-tertown, Jefferson county, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawer-Pulls, which improvement is fully set forth in the following speci- 'fieation This invention has reference to the construction of drawer-pulls, and particularly to pulls of the kind described in Letters Patent NO. 311,158, granted January 20, 1885, to J.

lVise & Son.

The drawer-pull, as described in said patent, consists of a hollow base and head drawn out from a single' piece of metal, an ordinary wood-Screw passing centrally through the head and taking into the drawer, and a divided ring sprung into holes in the head and having its ends abutting against the screw. By drising the screw tightly into the wood and compressing the metal of the piece forming the head and base, which is somewhat elastic, the pressure of said piece against the drawer and the head of the screw prevents the latter from working loose, which is the principal difficulty attendng the use of drophandles of this general description.

The present invention is designed, while preserving the advantages of the construction above described, to so modify its construction as to permit giving the base or rosette an irregular Outline Or shape, which is not feasible when the base and head are drawn out in one piece.

In carrying out the present invention the rosette Or base and the head or ferrule are drawn Out or struck up separately. This, I am aware, has been done heretofore, though not in case of drawer-pulls held in the manner deseribed by a wood screw; but t is important, in order to prevent slipping of the two smooth metal surfaces in contact, that means of connection should be provided between the base and the head or ferrule. These connecting devices maybe of anysuitable kind, such as can be conveniently and readily formed in the process of making the two parts. Preferably I form several small Serial No. 318,035. holes in the top of the rosette and provide the inner end of theferrule or head with corresponding projections or ears which fit in said holes and effectually prevent the ferrule from slipping on the base or rosette.

In the accompan yin g drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure I is a perspective view of a drawer-pull construeted in accordance with the invention, showing the parts detached. Fig. II is a front elevation, and Fig.,III a Vertical section.

A represents the ornamental base or rosette, stamped, struck up, Or drawn Out of a single piece of sheet metal.

B represents the head or ferrule, likewise formed of a single piece of metal and adapted to rest upon the central part of the base or rosette A. Both the base and head are centrally perforated for the passage of the holding-screw C, which, being,` screwed tightly into the drawer, compresses the base and head and is firmly held by the spring-pressure of these parts. The ring or handle D is sprung into holes on opposite sides of head B.

To prevent slipping of the parts A and B, the former is provided with perforations a, which are readily made either during or after the formation of said part, and head B has on its end the corresponding projections b, which engage the perforations d. This part Of the invention is of course susceptible of modification, inasmuch as other equivalent engaging or holding devices will Suggest themselves to those skilled in the art of metalworking.

By means of this invention a great variety of shapes can be given to the base or rosette. WVhen made in one piece with the head, it was necessary to confine it to a regular outline, since in making other forms some parts of the metal would be drawn more than others and a large percentage of damaged Or defeetive articles would result.

Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim is- A drawer-pull comprising, in combination, a hollow base or rosette drawn out from sheet metal and provided with recesses or perforations, a tubulm' ferrule, also drawn out from sheet metal and provided with project-ions for engaging said recesses or perfora'tions, a wood-Screw whose head bears against said ferrule and holds its projectons in said recesses or perfomtions, and a ring (nr handle, substantally as descrbed.
