LEMON-SQUEEZER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 414,499, dated November 5,1889. Application iiled January 12, 1889. Serial No. 296,123. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES A. CULLINANE, a citizen oi' the United States of America, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lemon-Squeezers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in lemon-squeezers, having for its object the provision of a new and improved device of this class, whereby the parts are rendered extremely simple in construction and arrangement, and the lemon dish or bowl is capable of being inverted or tilted to empty the same of the lemon-skin subsequent to the squeezing operation.
The invention also comprises the details of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of my improved lemonsqueezer. Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical sectional views thereof, taken at right angles to each other.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the arm or bracket, having a lower jaw a and thumb-screw d for securing the saine to a stand or table, and to this bracket is secured a curved arm or semicircular bar ai. From the curved arm or bar o? project two or more inclined or slightly-curved arms B B, supporting at their upper inner ends a short barrel or cylinder l), in one side of which is formed a longitudinal slot or opening b', and its inner surface is screw-threaded.
C is the compression-rod, having a lower curved head d, a central widened threaded portion d', a shank d2 projecting therefrom, and an upper crank-handle d3. This compresson-rod is secured in place within the barrel or cylinder h by first inserting the shank d2 through the slot or opening t', and then by elevating the same and turning the crank-handle cause its threaded portion to engage the thread of said barrel or cylinder.
The bowl D is provided with a circumferential flange or bead e, which rests upon the arm or bar a2, and in its center is formed a series of holes or apertures e', through which the lemon-juice is forced. The flange of` this bowl is grasped at one side by the springjaws e2 of a screw E, working in a threaded thimble e4 of arm or bar a2. This screw serves to hold the bowl in place, and after a lemon has been squeezed therein the skin, seed, ac., can be readily emptied by turning said screw, causing the bowl to revolve therewith.f
I am aware that it is not new to provide a lemon-squeezer composed of a stationary bowl and compressor working in a threaded tube or barrel, and hence I do not make broad claim thereto.
I claim as my inventionm l. In a lemon-squeezer, the combination, with a bracket having a curved arm, of the bowl having a ange or bead resting on said arm, and the screw secured to said arm near one end thereof and having spring j aws grasping said iia-nge or bead, as set forth.
2. In a lemon-squeezer, the combination, with a bracket having a curved arm, of the bowl having a flange or bead resting on said arm, the threaded thimble secured to said arm near one end thereof, and the screw having the spring-jaws and working in said thimble, substantially as set forth, said jaws being designed to grasp said flange or bead, as stated.
3. The combination of the bracket having a curved arm a2 and the inclined arms B, the threaded barrel or cylinder having a slot in one side thereof supported by said inclined arms, the bowl having a flange or bead resting on said curved arm, and the compressor-rod having a curved head and shank, said shank having` a threaded portion and a reduced portion capable of insertion through said slot of the barrel or cylinder, as set forth.. Y l
Al. The combination of the bracket having a set-screw, the curved arm secured thereto and provided with a threaded thimble, the bowl having a flange or bead resting on said arm, the screw having spring-jaws, the threaded barrel or cylinder, the supporting-arms therefor, and the compressor, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
