Description

L. D; FLANDERS SPOKE SOCKET AND PELLY CLAMP.
NO. 41,370. Patented 12111.26, 1864.
. for the end of the spoke.
size to receive the whole-diameter of the spoke,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
L. D, FLANDERS, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPOKE-SOCKETS AND FELLY-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 41,370. dated January 26, 1864.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, L. D. FLANDERS, of Cleveland, in the county of Uuyahoga and Stateof Ohio, have invented new anduseful Improvements in Spoke-Sockets and Felly- Clamps for Carriage-Wheels; and I do hereby delare thatthe following is a full and complete description of the construction and'operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a side view, and' Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section.
Like letters refer to like parts.
Figs. 2 and 3 represent the joining ends of the folly and spoke in place.
In the several views, Arepresents the socket This is of suflicient as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This socket is joined to and forms part of the plate G,which tits closely to the inside of the telly E, having the proper curvature therefor. The plate 0 extendsalong the inside of the felly an inch or more from the socket A upon each side, and is provided with two lugs or tenons, B B, which fit accurately holes bored upon the inner side of the fellies to receive them. There is also upon each edge of the plate (J flanges a a, which rise on each side of the joined ends placed in the center, and the ends extended out a less distancefrom the socket A. The socket A,into which the end of the spoke is inserted, keeps the spoke firmly in place, and the bottom of this socket, being composed of the plate O,prevents the spoke from being crowded into the wood of the t'elly. in setting the tire. This structure is intended to be inade'ot cast metal. Any suitable kind may be used.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The plate O,'socket A, lugs B B, and lips aa, all cast in one piece and secured to the felly by means of the screws b b, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
L. D. FLANDERS.
