BARREL SHEET TRUCK. Y No. 413,237. Patented 001;. 22, 1889.
PATENT OFFICE.
HUGO MATTULLATI-I, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BARREL-SHEET TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 413,237, dated October 22, 1889.
Application iiled February ll, 1889. Serial No. 299,435. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, z' may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO MATTULLATH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barrel-Sheet Trucks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View; Fig. 2,- a side elevation of a truck embodying my invention.
This invention has for its object the construction of a truck adapted for use about a barrel-factory for the handling of continuous stares or veneers in the manufacture of continuous stave or veneer barrels. It is iinportant in sheets of thecharacter that the sheet should be maintained flat, and to facilitate either being readily lifted onto or from the truck it is convenient to support them well above the fioor or ground. To this end I construct a truck as follows:
A represents the stretchers or bearers. They are extended out at either one or both ends to form handles A. The bearers A are arranged in a substantially horizontalposition, and are made straight along the top to afford flat surfaces for supporting the veneersheets or continuous staves without bending.
B represents inclined braces beneath, which are formed into or otherwise united at their upper ends with the bearers and sloped downward and toward each other, and at their lower ends are united and form the supports for the axle-boxes b.
C is a shaft or axle provided with wheels C. These wheels may be located either inside the frame or outside the latter, as may be convenient in case it is desired to remove the wheel or wheels, while the former construction may be employed where it is necessary or desirable to bring the frame of the truck close beside the machine or other object where the wheel would otherwise be in theway.
D represents leg-supports. Cross-pieces E serve to stiften and strengthen the structure.
A truck of this character is at once substantial and strong, is convenient for use about a shop or factory, and the bearers are high, so as to enable a Workman to lift the sheets or continuous staves onto or off from the bearers without stooping. So, also, where the continuous staves or sheets are required to be handled directly from a machine onto the truck or directly from the truck onto a machine one by one the bearers are of convenient height to accommodate this purpose.
lVhat I claim is- A barrel-sheet trucl; consisting of horizontal bearers A,having straight upper surfaces, the inclined supports B, the Wheels C', the leg-supports D, and braces E, substantially as described. A
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
