SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,181., dated September 1'?, 1889.

To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN BAERON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Casters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved construction of pivot or swivel roller-supports to be used instead of casters for carrying the weight of furniture and for other purposes, so that each such support may have freedom of movement in any direction upon and over the supporting surface, and so that when that surface is level the center of resistance of such surface Inay be in the Vertical line of pressure imposed upon it by the weight.
In carrying out my invention I use in each support three rollers having central spindles with or upon which the said rollers may freely revolve, such spindles being so placed that their center lines or axes shall bein one horizontal plane and inclined to each other at ann gles of sixty degrees, or thereabout, and upon which spindles or studs the vertical weight is carried by means of asuitable frame holding` or supporting the spindles. The said frame thus connected with the three rollers is attached, by means of a pivot or swivel joint of any suitable construction, to asocket or plate or other suitable device for receiving and transmitting the weight or pressure to be sustained and supported.
The rollers may be spherical or frustums of spheres andrest directly upon the supporting-surface.
In order that my said invention may be fully understood, I will describe the same by reference to the accompanying drawings, which represent examples of my improved appliances as aforesaid; and I wish it to be understood that I have for the salie of simplicity herein described and assumed the Weights, loads, or pressures to be vertical and downward in direction and the supporting or resisting surface to be horizontal..
Referring to the annexed sheet of drawings, Figures l and 2 are elevations taken in different directions, respectively, of one support made according to my invention. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan of the same in the plane A A of Figs. l and 2. Fig. 4. is avertical section of the same in the plane B B of Fig. 3 with two of the rollers removed.
Similar letters of reference are used in all views to indicate similar parts.
