Description
(No Model') W. ZIBDLBR.
HoRssHoE. No. 410,625. Patented Sept. l0, 1889.
WTNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM ZIEDLER, OF DE LASSUS, MISSOURI.
HORSESHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 410,625, dated September 10, 1889.
Application tiled October 31, 1888. Serial No. 289,665. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ZIEDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Lassus, in the county of St. Franois and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in horseshoes, and more especially to improvements in calks, which can be attached, removed, or replaced at will without removing the shoe from the foot.
The construction of the shoe, together with the attachmentshereinaftershowm comprise the features of my invention.
In the accompanying drawings, which are to be considered a part of this specification, Figure l represents a horseshoe made in the usual manner and form, except as hereinafter shown and described, with myimprovements in toe and heel calks attached. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of Fig. l. ou a line with 2 2,
showing the manner of inserting or attaching toe-calk A, and how the same is secured in slot or opening B by the auxiliary toe-call( C. In like manner the heel-calks a are received in suitable receptacles or holes b (corresponding to slot B) in the ends or heels of shoes, and such calks a are secured by auxiliary calks c, which are similar to calk C and serve the same purpose.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a horseshoe having a slot parallel with its face, of an L-shaped calk consisting of a wedge-shaped point for contact with the ground and a backwardlyprojecting portion Iitting the slot, and the auxiliary calk with threaded stem bearing against the backwardly-projecting portion of the L- shaped calk.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VILLIAM ZIEDLER.
