ROBERT OLP, OF MANITOVOC, W'ISOONSIN.
FLOUR-SIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 409,491, dated August 20, 1889.
Application filed April 24, 1889.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that l, ROBERT OLP, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour-Sifters, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My improvement in flour-sitters consists in the peculiar structure, combination, and arrangement or" the parts, substantially as hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is,
a side elevation, parts being broken away; and Figs. 2, 3, and t are detail views.
This invention relates to certain improvements in flour-sitters; and it consists of the novel construction and combination of parts, as will appear from the following description and accompanying illustrations.
In constructing my iiour-sifter I form the upper part of the flour-holder A scoop shape and dispose near the bottom thereof gauze B, its handle D being hinged or pivoted thereto by an eye D', as shown. In fastening the sieve to the scoop, the scoop being provided with a ilange a projecting horizontally therefrom, gauze B is soldered to said flange, and the iiange is bent over, as shown in Figs. l and 4. Thus the sieve will be made perfeetly tight, and then to cover the rough edge hub-band O is soldered thereto. Handle D, connected to the scoop, consists of a single strand of wire having eye d. It is bent into rectangular or proXimately-rectangular form., the strand in continuation being passed through eye d' outside the scoop and curved serial No. 308,455. (No modem downward on its inside to prevent separation therefrom of agitator e. The agitator e has eyes or rings f f secured thereto by any or nary means, and through said eyes the end of handle-strand D is passed, as shown, and the curve or bend g in strand D prevents separation therefrom of the agitator. A modi Iication of this part of my invention is shown in Fig. 3, wherein the bail or handle is formed by coiling the wire at h, soldering it together where it passes through eyes h', and coiling the saine strand where in continuation it is passed inside the sieve and aligned in a corresponding plane with the gauze to form an agitator. Thus constructed, a very simple, efficient, and inexpensive fioulksifter is produced.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The iioursifter comprising the scoop, having upon its rear side, at the top edge, an eye, and the combined handle and agitator consisting of the continuous wire bent in rectangular form for a portion of its length and terminating within the scoop in a series of coils, one vertical portion of its rectangle having a hand-hold, the other vertical por tion of the rectangle engaging the eye upon the scoop, and having at its lower end an eye, through which the horizontal portion ot' said wire passes, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RoBEn'r OLP.
