SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 409,160, dated. August 20, 1889.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. BACON, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Danielsonville, in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVall-Paper and lVindow-Shade Exhibitors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked t-liereon,which form a part of this specification.

This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in show stands and racks, having for its object the provision of an improved device of this class for exhibiting wall-paper and other goods suspended from a plurality of racks or rods pivotally secured to a revolving cylinder, substantially as herein after fully set forth, an d particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view in side elevation showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a portion of the base thereof. Figs. 3 and a are respectively vertical and horizontal sectional-views of the revolving cylinder. Figs. 5 and 6 are similar views of the lower stationary cylinder. Fig. 7 is a view in perspective of the stand or rack complete. Figs. 8 and 9 are respectively bottom and top plan views of the revolving cylinder.

Referring to the drawings, A designates the base or stand, composed of two intersecting cross-bars a a, having casters a, and to this base is secured a stationary guide-cylinder a as shown.

B is an upper revolving cylinder, secured so as to be free to rotate on a vertical shaft C, bearing at its lower end on the base A. This cylinder is composed of a series of spaced-apart bars Z), an outer covering 1), and upper and lower head-plates b which extend a short distance beyond the covering 1), and having formed in their outer flanged portions Z) a series of holes or apertures b, as shown. To the upper head-plate b is secured a recessed bearing-plate 1), wherein fits the upper end of shaft C.

D designates a series of suspending-racks composed each of a single rod having an upper horizontal portion (1 and a lower inwardlyprojecting inclined portion (1. The ends of these rods are bent or formed into hooks (1 which are placed in corresponding holes or apertures b of the upper and lower headplates 71 so as to be free to turn. A shield or board E, of approximately U shape, is placed over the upper horizontal portion (1 of each rack D, the outer lower ends thereof being glued or otherwise connected together, so as to prevent the raising of said shield or board. To these shields or boards samples of wallpaper are generally secured, a small quantity of mucilage being placed on the sides thereof to permit of the ready attachment of such samples.

\Vhile my invention is especially designed for exhibiting wall-paper samples, it is obvious that the same is applicable for exhibiting articles of merchandise, such as hosiery, gloves, handkerchiefs, &c.

I claim as my invention 1. As an improvement in show stands or racks, the combination of the vertical shaft, the upper revolving cylinder secured thereon, and the series of suspending-racks having upper and lower bent ends removably secured to the upper and lower ends of said cylinder, substantially as set forth.

2. As an improvement in show stands and racks, the upper revolving cylinder having upper and lower head-plates provided with apertures around their edges, and the series of suspending-racks composedof a single bent rod having hooked ends secured in said apertures, substantially as set forth.

3. The combination, with the vertical shaft and the upper cylinder, of the series of racks secured to said cylinder and having upper horizontal portions, and the shoulders or U- shaped bars secured on the said horizontal portions of the racks, substantially as set forth.
