In Fig. 1 I have 'shown4 the'vessel in an upright position and made up of a plurality of sections of cylinder and having theinlet near the bottoni, the outlet at the top, and
a settling-chamber a2 belowthe inlet, with a drain-cock leading therefrom.l A For convenience of manufacture I provide flanges c13 a. at the extremities ot` the tube sections, by means of which they may be bolted together. They also serve as shoulders, against which the coils of the helix may be supported.
A ringof brass or other non-magnetic material, or a neck-like section, as D, is by preference interposed between the vflanged tubesections to divide the conduit into separate magnetic sections. The inward projections may be hard-steel-permanent magnets, or they may be of softiron 'energized by a magnetic helix. The necessary conditionot' the points is that they be magnetic.
I have shown around and upon .the conduit or vessel a helix C, of insulated wire, in circuit with a source of electricity for periodically charging the hard-steelpoints to make them magnetic, or foiconstantly energizing such points, whether steel or iron.
In usev as a feed-water purifier the vesselA is arranged upon a suitable support between the water-supply and the mud-drum of a steam-boiler, and connections made with iulet and eduetion passages, so as to cause the feed-water to pass through said vessel'to the circulation in the boiler.
, Obviously, one of the heads or ends ot the vessel may be omitted and the device suspended by a suitable hollow neck in a boiler or other vessel for aleeting and purifying the contents with magnetism.
