ORE-CRUSHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 409,084, dated August 13, 1889.
Application filed April 8, 1889. Serial No. 306,461. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GILES WV. W'ELLER, of Baker City, Baker county, State of Oregon, have invented an Improvement in Ore-Crushers; and I hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to that class of orecrushers in which the material is fed and crushed between opposing movable jaws; and my invention consists in the construction and combination of devices which I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings foramore complete explanation of my invention, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of my crusher. Fig. 2 isaside elevation of one jaw, showing a shoe with a slightly-modified face.
A is the frame of my crusher.
B B are the crushing-jaws. These are pivoted on horizontal shafts C in the ends of the frame, adapting them to be moved up and down through an arc in a vertical plane about The working-faces of the jaws are curved oppositely with respect to each other and are provided with shoes I) b. In the upper portion a of the frame are mounted the transverse shafts D D, to one of which a rotary motion is imparted by a pulley E. The shafts are connected by the gears e e. The shafts D D have cranks d d, from which depend the links F F, the lower ends of which are connected with the jaws B B.
The operation is as follows: The jaws are raised and lowered simultaneously by the crank-shafts. As they rise the space between the upper portions of their shoes widens and the space between the lower portions contracts. As they fall the space between their upper portions contracts and the space between their lower portions widens. The ore passes down into the widened space between the upper portions of the jaws as they rise and is crushed between them as they fall, being readily discharged from between their separating lower portions. The shoes I) are fitted to the jaws by means of dovetail flanges fitting in corresponding dovetail grooves, whereby the shoes may be readily removed when necessary. The curvature of the face of the shoe need not in all cases be continuous, for I may use the shoe shown in Fig. 2, the upper portion of which is a straight plane I). This will give a more extended crushingsurface and materially increase the capacity of the crusher.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An improved ore-crusher consisting of the combination of the frame A, having the upper portion a, the horizontal shafts O at each end of the frame, the opposing jaws B B, pivoted at their rear ends on thehorizontal shafts and having oppositely-curved working-faces 1), between which the ore is received and crushed, the shafts D D above, the gears connecting the shafts, the cranks of the shafts,
and the links connecting the cranks with the jaws, whereby they are vibrated simultaneously through arcs in a vertical plane, substantially as described.
