PATENT THOMAS TRIBE, OF COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.
HANGING SLIDING CURTAINS.
S1:lilCIFICATIONA forming part of Letters Patent No. 405,333, dated June 18, 1889.
Application filed August 20, 1888. Serial No. 283,24L2. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS TRIBE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented new. and useful Improvements in Hanging Sliding Curtains, of which the following is a specication.
The object of my invention is to provide simple, cheap, and effective means for hanging sliding curtains wherein the rod or wire on whichh the vcurtain slides may be readily and quickly arranged in position, and maybe tightened to the desired tension.
The invention consists in a certain novel construction and combination of devices, fully set forth hereinafter, in connection with the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of a curtain-iixture embodying my iinprovements applied in the operative position to a window-frame. Fig. 2 is a detail view, partly in section, of one of the brackets with the end of the rod or wire attached thereto. Fig. 3 is a horizontal central sectional view of the same.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A A designate brackets, which are arranged, respectively, at opposite sides of a windowframe, and they consistof the base-plates B B and the Shanks C C and the sleeves or tubular sockets D D on the outer ends of the Shanks. The brackets mayeither be formed in a single sheet of metal or in any other approved way.
The base-plates of the bracket are provided with apertures b b, which register, respectively, with similar apertures e e in the grooved or channeled washers E E, which are arranged between the base-plates and the frame of the window. These washers are designed to strengthen the brackets, and they are preferably formed of sheet metal, with their edges turned up on opposite sides of the base-pla`tes, but may be formed in any other approved manner. Screws F F pass through the said registering -apertures and engage the frame of the window.
G designates the rod or wire on which the curtain H slides, and its threaded ends are passed into the brackets A A, wherein they are engaged by the screw-bolts K K. These screw-bolts tit snugly in the sleeves or tubular sockets of the brackets, and are provided with longitudinal tapped bores 7o 7c, in which are engaged the ends of the rod or wire, and the outer ends of the screw-bolts are provided with angular heads L L, having transverse grooves N N, whereby they may be turned either with a screw-driver or with a Wrench. The bolts K are free to turn in the sleeves or sockets, and it will be evident that when the threaded ends of the rod or wire are engaged thereon and the bolts are turned the rod or wire may be adjusted to the width of the window-frame, and may be tightened to any desired tension.
The parts of this invention are simple, may be cheaply made, and are easily arranged in position. Further, the grooved or channeled washers prevent the brackets from being strained laterally by the tension on the. rod or Wire. Further, by loosening one of the screwbolts the rod or wire may be removed from the brackets to release the curtain. The brackets are provided with apertures O O, to enable either end of the curtain to be tied thereto to hold it stationary.
Having thus described the invention, I claiml. The brackets provided with sleeves or tubular sockets having smooth interiors, combined with the screw-bolts fitting loosely and adapted to revolve in the sleeves or sockets and provided with threaded bores, and the rod provided with threaded extremities engaging the bores of the screw-bolts, substantially as specified.
2. The brackets provided with sleeves or tubular sockets, combined with the revoluble screwbolts iitting loosely in the sleeves or sockets, provided with threaded bores and having heads on their outer ends bearing ets, and the rod or wire having threaded ends engaging the bores of the screw-bolts, substantially as specified,
3. The combination, with the brackets provided with sleeves or tubular sockets D D, of the revoluble screw-bolts K, fitting snugly in the sleeves or sockets and having angular heads bearing against the outer ends of the sleeves or sockets and provided with transverse grooves, and the rod or wire having against the outer ends of the sleeves or sock- ICO threaded ends engaged in the bores of the end of a rod or Wire, substantially as speci- Said Screw-bolts, substantially as specified. fied.
