IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTER-FINGER S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 410.28%,dated October 13, 18,63.
vImprovements in the Mode of Constructing Harvesting-Fingers; and I do hereby declare.- that the following is a. full'and exact description thereof, reference being had to the aceompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference thereon.
In the drawings, "Figure l is a plan view of the finger. Fig.2 is an elevation of the same. Fig. 3is a plan view of the steel-plate which forms't'he cuttin g-edges of the harvester-finger. Fig.4'is' a section of the plate through line :0 m, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section through line zz. Fig. 6 is a section through-line y y.
The nature of my invention consists in securing the steel plate to the finger by casting the metal of which the-finger is made around and into the plate in such a manner as to secure it firmly and cheaply.
A is the finger; B, the steel plate, provided with an indentation, c, at its front end to re-- ceive a corresponding tongue of the finger.
c is'a countersunk hole about the center of the plate.
a a are bevels at the sides of the plate at its rear end.
b is a curved or straight bevel at the rear end of the plate. 7 In operating my invention 'the plate is attached toacore of sand. .They are then pntinto asuitable mold, and the molten metal is run .in, forming the finger, and running into the countersink c and over the bevels a and b. Theplates are then tempered after they have been cast. Y
It will thus be seen that by this simple means I amenabled to secure the steel platesto the fingers of harvesters in an exceedinglycheap, efi'ective, and permanent manner.
Having thus fully described the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is
Securing the steel plate B to the finger A by means of the countersunk hole 0, into which the metal forming the finger is east.
