rMPPLOVEMENT IN BUTTONS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 40.254, dated October 13, 1.863.

Be it known that we, ACHILLE AUGUSTE FELD'IRAPPE and REN-DUTFOY, of Paris, in the Empire of France, have invented anew and Improved Button; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and

exact description of the saine, referenceL being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure-1 is a back view of the button. Fig.

This invention consists in a button without cither'a projecting shank or any hole through its face, but having its attachment to a garment provided for by means of a hole or tunnel passing transversei y through the body.

This button maybe made of porcelain or other ceramic material, or of any substance which is sufficiently plastic undercertain conditions to enable it to be molded in molds, or formed by pressure in dies to4 the desired shape, and may be manufactured in one piece by any molding'or pressing machinery or apparatns adapted to the manufacture of such 1t may be of various forms externally, but we prefer to make its back of spheroidal form, as that form is 'bestadapted to the proper arrangement of ,the hole Yor tunnel anwhich extends. transversely and centrally through it. We do not clninranaking a button with a bar formed in its back as a substitute for a sha-nk; but a What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A button of porcelain or other material, without either a projecting shank or any hole in its face, but havin g a hole or tunnel extending transversely through the back part -of its body, substantially as herein specified.
