IMPROVEMENT IN RAILWAY DUMPING-CAPLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 10, H311, dated September 29, 1863.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ANTONY WELsoH, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Railway Dumpingars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a ground plan; Fig'. 2, a side View; Fig. 3, a front view, and Fig. 4 a front View with box lifted up.
The nature 0f my improvement consists in the bending of a shaft for friction-rollers, so that it is used to brace the frame above, and act as bearings for dumpingbox, and also bearing for rollers, so that the car can be. used for dumping at either sides or ends, and
. when not in use for dumping-car the box above can be removed and car used as a platformcar. t
To enable others skilled in the art to make and to use my improvement, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct the platform B and wheels A A A A in the usual Way, the socket C in center to receive center-bolt, and four rings, D D D D, at equidistant spaces, for hitching chain of dumping box on upper surface of platform.
E E E are frictionrollers, which carry shaft F and frame G, which last, by the connection of bearings H H from dumping-box J above, V
which rests on the endsvof shaft below, rendering the box easily dumped at. any desired point, and making,- it a universal `dumper. The box J and frame for saine are made in the usual way, with the exception of bearings for shaft and bracing-timbers. The car is also built low, thus doing` away with thetop Weight in running, and is easier to load and unload.
