SULPHUR CANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 400,444, dated April 2, 1889.

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G= CRIssEY, bf East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Disinfectants, of which the following is a specification This improvement particularly relates to disinfectants in the form of candles .The object of the improvement is to facilitate the burning of a sulphur candle or a candle having sulphur as an ingredient.
The improvement consists in a candle having at the top a number of wicks extending transversely.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top view ofa candle embodying the improve- Fig.2 is avertical section of the same.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
A designates the candle. It is composed of sulphur or compounds including sulphur or analogous material. It is shown as of cylindrical form. The upper surface is shown as concave or hollowed out from the outer portion surface thereof. It will be seen that in the,
present instance these wicks are arranged at the concave portion of the 'top of the candle,
and that the wicks are upturned at the outer as well as the inner ends. At the inner ends where the wicks are close together a wicking or tuft of fiber, O, is arranged and it occupies a position intermediate of the several wicks B. Fiber may be distributed throughoutthe material forming the candle.
I have shown the candle as surrounded by a metal band, D, extending slightly above its top surface, and this band as having com= bined with it a plate, E. WVhen both the band and plateare used, a box or case is formed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A disinfectant candle comprising sulphur having wicks arranged transversely at the top, substantially as specified.
2. A disinfectant candle comprising sulphur having wicks arranged radially at the top, substantially as specified. v
3. Asulphur candle having wicks arranged radially at the top and an intermediate wicking or tuft of fiber, substantially as specified.
4. A disinfectant candle comprising sulphur having at the top radial Wicks embedded be tween their ends in the material of the candle, but. exposed at both ends, substantially as specified.
5. A disinfectant candle comprising sulphur having its top or upper surface concaved from the outer wall toward the center and having transversely extending wicks, substantially as specified.
