SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 399,895, dated March 19, 1889.
Application filed March 29, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ERIC M. l'IEssELBoM, of Rushford, in the county of Fillmore and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Snow-Plow, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to a snow-plow for which Letters Patent No. 263,1 78 of the United States were granted to me under date of August 22, 1882.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved snowplow which is very simple and durable in construction and very effectively cuts up the snow and discharges it the wings E and E, respectively.

The rear edges, F, of the side knives, F, are nearly perpendicular and preferably slightly curved, as shown in Fig. 1. From the rear end of each knife F extends rearwardly a wedge-shaped side plate, H, terminating in a point at its rear end near the bottom edges of The plates H are secured to the side edges of the bottom 0, thus forming, with the central knife or cutter D, a chute or passage-way for the snow. The rear ends of the extension-wings I and l are connected with each other by a brace, J, which can be removed, so as to permit the wings I and I to fold inwardly when the snowplow is not in use.
The operationis as follows: The snow-plow A is driven into the snow-bank by a locomotive or other motor pushing against the rear The front cutting-edge, O of the bottom C cuts into the snow and causes the latter to pass onto the top of the bottom C. The side knives, F, and the central knife, 1) also cut into the snow-bank to its full depth, so that two blocks of snow are cut out of the bank, and the said two blocks pass rearwardly along the bottom 0 on the forward movement of the plow in the chute formed between the central, knife, D, and the *hen the two blocks of snow finally come in contact with the wings E and E, respectively, they are forced outward and over the top edge of the side H near their rear ends.
