I Be it known that 1, DAVID CUMMING, J r.,
of New York, county and State of New 'York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in (Join and Letter Scales; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andcxactilescription of the coiistruction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexeddrawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure'l is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a longitudinal elevation, and Fig. 3 a horizonfill plan of the top.

- Manner of working: The coin to be weighed is placed in the spring-holder, and the weight moved'aronnd on the pivot until the mark of the denomination of the coin on the curved plate is directly under the index K-on the beam. If the coin is of the proper weight, the beam will be inclined toward the end on which the coin hangs. Letters areweighett in the same manner.
The machine has been tried and works well, and can, be manufactured at a small cost.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
