SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,770, dated February 12, 1889.

Be it known that I, HENRY Z. YOUNG, of Seville, in the county of Volusia, and in the State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tile-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to tile-machines, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure l is a section of my improved tile-machine on line l l of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3 3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section on line Il 4, Fig. l. Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 5, Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a broken section on line 6 6, Fig. 5. Fig. 7 is a section on line 7 7, Fig. i). Fig. 8 is a sectional view showing how the completed tiles are delivered; and Fig. 9 is a section on line O 9, Fig. S. Figs. l0 and ll are details.
A A are the pug-mills, which are provided with arms a, that serve, with arms h of shafts B, to miX the material as it passes down to the conveyers. The mill A is for the damp core-sand, and A' is for the cement or clay of which the tiles are formed. Hollow eonveyers C are located in the bottom of pug-mill A. One end of each of these eonveyers is provided with a pinion, c, and the two pinions are driven from below by a larger pinion, D, on a shaft, D that has Aits bearings in uprights D?. In like manner mill. A is provided with two conveyers, E, and these are driven by pinions d d, which in turn are driven bya pinion, D3, on shaft D.
The conveyers C extend through the sides of the mill A into barrels F, and the sandconveyers E extend through the side of mill A into the conveyers C. The barrels F eX- tend beneath the horizontal portion of a frame, G, and this frame is provided with dovetailed grooves in which blocks c slide, and to these blocks are hinged the arms f of a gate, f', which, when down, closes the barrels F.
H are formers which are adapted to inclose the barrels while each two-pipe sections are being formed and to be gradually forced off of the barrels as the clay is packed in, and these formers are connected by arms h with a turn-table, I, having grooves in which the arms fit, and said arms are provided with hooked heads t' for engagement with the spring-hooks j, that are carried by the turntable. The arms are confined to the table by keepers j'.
K is an arm that is hinged at one end to a bracket, K', that is secured to the frame G, and near its hinged end this arm has a bearing for a pulley-shaft, L, which carries afriction-wheel, M, and two belt-pulleys, M M.
At its front end arm K is formed with branches m m, which branches are formed with arms m m and m2 m2. The arms m form bearings for shafts m3, and between these arms are the pulleys that drive these shafts. In like manner the arms m2 form bearings for shafts m4. Those portions of the shafts m3 and m"l that project inside of the inner arms of the branches are squared to receive, respectively, convex reamers N and concave reamers N', which are adapted to slide on their respective shafts under control of arms O, the ends of which loosely embrace their hubs. The arms O are connected by toggle-links O with a lever, O2, that is pivoted to a bracket, OS, so that they can beadvanced or withdrawn simultaneously by a sin gle movement of the lever.
The pulleys that drive the shafts of the reamers are connected with the pulleys M M' by belts M3, and the friction-wheel M rests upon a horizontal friction-wheeLM2, the shaft P of which is stepped in a stand, P', and carries a bevel-wheel, P2, on its upper end, that engages with another bevel-wheel, P3, on a counter-shaft, P1. J ust above its step shaft P carries two other friction-wheels, -p p, which are far enough apart to receive between them a vertical friction-wheel, p', the shaft p2 0f which bears in a lever, p3, that is pivoted at one end to a stand, Q, and is supported at the other end by an arm, Q', of stand P', with springs q interposed between it and the arm above and below, as shown in Fig. l. The end of shaft p2 opposite the wheel p' carries a cogwheel, p4, for engagement with rack-teeth p5 on a bar, R, which is slotted or looped at R to receive the shaft S of the turn-table I, on which shaft it is supported and confined in place by collars s s. and this fork lies in the path of the downturned end of an arm/ll, ot' a pair ol pushers, '.l", which are carried by an erin, T2, that is hinged to a bleek, t, that slides in a dovetailed groove, t', in the turn-table.

Thus the tiles are t'orlued, roamed, and expelled successively.
