ACCOUNT-BOOK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 393.507, dated November 27, 1888,

Application filed January 3, 1888. Serial No. 259,612. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN W. HORNE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Account-Books, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in explaining its nature, in which- Figure l is a View in perspective of an account-book having the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in plan thereof.

The object of the invention is, first, to provide means whereby entries may be indexed both by page and by line; and, second, to divide the book into what I have termed, for convenience, address pages and account pages, and to number the pages which I term address pages at the bottom and the top, or either, with the same numbers upon their opposing or facing sides, and to inter-pose the pages which I term account pages, and the corners of which are rounded or otherwise formed to expose the number of the addresspagcs between which they are placed.

ltefcrring to the drawings, A A. represent the address-pages having full or unmutilated or uncut corners. They are each numbered or paged at the upper corners, and at the lower corners also.

B B represent the account-pages. These pages are not numbered. They preferably have the detachable margins B and are interposed betwccn the address-pages to any extent or of any number. I generally use two full leaves of this character, but one leaf only may be employed; and each of these accountpages has rounded corners B, or corners otherwise shaped or cut, to expose the numbering of the address-pages between which they are placed. Both the address-pages and the accountpages have their lines numbered consecutively from the top at the left margin, B, and upon other parts of the page, if desired, and this I find to be of very great advantage, because it enables the entries of the book to be posted or indexed by line as well as by page. Each of the account-pages between two address-pages will have the number indicated at the corners of the addrcss-pages. For instance, in Fig. 1 the addresspages are numbered 3 and the account-pages between would be posted as 3, although they bear no number. By removing the corners of the accountpages the address-pages are more easily and quickly found by their page number than if the account-pages were full and covered these numbers.

I would say that the page which I term the address page is so called because it has a column in which names of persons and things may be entered; but the remainder of these pages are preferably ruled in the same manner as the ruling of the account-pages. I would also say that the address-pages may be paged or numbered at either their upper or lower corners only, in which case the inter posed pages B B need only to be cut away or rounded to corresp'ond. I would also say that the address as well as the accountpagcs are numbered consecutively from the top d0wuward.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Let tcrs Patent of the United States- 1. An account-book having full or complete address-leaves A A, the facing pages of which bear the same page-numbers at their corners, and the interposed leaves having their corners cut away to expose the numbers on the corners of the pages of the add rcsslcaves, substantially as set forth.

2. An accou nt-book comprising full addressleavcs A A, having the same page-numbers on their facing pages, and the interposed accountleaves B B, having removable margins B", cut away at their corners, substantially as set forth.
