E I II Fig. 2'? 6 COMBINED WIRE-STRIPPING AND WRAPPING TOOL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a combined wirestripping and wrapping gun for establishing wire-wrap connections, comprising devices for the cutting and stripping of wires. These devices generally consist of a handle with a tubular housing with a sleeve at the front end, and a compressed-air motor in the housing which, via a clutch, serves to drive a wrapping bit also supported in the housing. The axial movement of the wrapping bit in relation to the sleeve causes a knife tiltably arranged in the wrapping sleeve to become lowered with its cutting edge on to the cutting portion of the wrapping bit for slitting the wire insulation.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of this invention to improve the combined wire-stripping and wrapping tool to such an extent that the manual insertion of the wire will become operationally simpler and faster. According to the invention this is accomplished by the provision of an insertion slot in the shaft of the wrapping sleeve passing transversely through the longitudinal axis of the sleeve and extending somewhat further than the center of the sleeve axis.
In other devices the wire had to be inserted through a window provided for in the wrapping sleeve. This was considered unfavorable from an operation-economical point of view because a very careful threading was required, however in the instant device the wire only needs to be led by the operating person against the limit stop, and lowered into the insertion slot.
According to one embodiment of the combined wirestripping and wrapping tool, the insertion slot as arranged in the shaft of the wrapping sleeve, has an L- shaped cross-section.
According to a further embodiment of the combined wire-stripping and wrapping tool for simplifying the lowering of the wire, it is proposed that the limb of the wrapping sleeve representing the insertion opening of the slot, be widened in a funnel-shaped manner by extending from the center of the axis towards both sides.
According to a still further embodiment of the combined wire-stripping and wrapping tool, the funnelshaped enlarged insertion slot is arranged slantingly towards the transverse axis of the wrapping sleeve.
For enabling a self-centering during the further processing of the wire as lowered into the insertion slot, and in accordance with a still further embodiment of the combined wirestripping and wrapping tool, it is proposed that the horizontal limb of the insertion slot of the wrapping sleeve has a wedge-shaped crosssection.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention will now be explained in greater detail with reference to an example of embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 shows the wrapping sleeve with the wire positioned in the insertion slot. in a side view,
FIG. 2 shows the wrapping sleeve according to FIG. 1, with the wire end being led to a limit stop, in a top view, and
FIG. 3 shows the wrapping sleeve in the representation according to FIG. 1, in a rear view.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS In FIGS. 1 to 3 the wrapping sleeve of the wrapping tool (not shown) is indicated by the reference numeral 1. In the shaft 2 of the wrapping sleeve 1 there is arranged an insertion slot 3 passing (cut) transversely through the longitudinal axis thereof. This insertion slot 3 serves to take up the wire 4 which, with a view to its further processing, will always assume the proper position in a simple way. For safeguarding this, the insertion slot, in its depth, extends somewhat beyond the center of the axis of the wrapping sleeve 1. In its crosssection, the insertion slot 3 is of an almost L-shaped design. The upright limb representing the insertion opening, for the purpose of facilitating the insertion of the wire 4, may be widened in a funnel-shaped manner, for example. towards both sides, and may be arranged slantingly in relation to the transverse axis of the wrap ping sleeve 1. The horizontal limb 5 of the insertion slot 3, for the sake of enabling the self-centering of the wire 4, is of a wedge-shaped design.
When leading the wire 4 against the limit stop 6, and upon lowering it into the insertion slot 3, the wire 4 will be gripped by the point end of the (not shown) wrapping tool, for being transported to the wrapping bit, in the course of which the wire 4, as already described hereinbefore, is centered and stripped in the known manner.
Although several embodiments have been included to show the operation of this invention, they are included by way of example only and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention to these specific operations.
What is claimed is:
l. A wire stripping and wrapping tool bit comprising in combination:
a wrapping sleeve part,
a shaft part, said shaft part having an insertion slot passing through the longitudinal axis thereof and extending to a depth slighlty greater than the center of the axis of said tool bit; and
said insertion slot having an L-shaped cross-section and said slot being widened by extending in a funnel-shaped manner from the center of the axis toward both sides, and being arranged slantingly in relation to the transverse axis of the wrapping

Claims (1)

1. A wire stripping and wrapping tool bit comprising in combination: a wrapping sleeve part, a shaft part, said shaft part having an insertion slot passing through the longitudinal axis thereof and extending to a depth slighlty greater than the center of the axis of said tool bit; and said insertion slot having an L-shaped cross-section and said slot being widened by extending in a funnel-shaped manner from the center of the axis toward both sides, and being arranged slantingly in relation to the transverse axis of the wrapping sleeve part.
