, 5 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures LAMINATED STRAP WITH DECORATIVE STITCI-IING This invention relates to a strap and has as its object to eliminate the disadvantages of known straps. These disadvantages reside in that smooth straps are poor in appearance and that decorative stitches provided on straps are liable to be damaged particularly if the straps can be closed by clamping buckles or buckles having a tongue. Damage to seams or stitches is particularly undesirable in straps which consist of an outer layer and a lining, which are interconnected by seams or stitches. When the seams or stitches have been damaged, the outer layer and the lining separate and the strap can no longer be used.
This disadvantage is eliminated according to the invention in that an outer layer is provided with decorative seams or decorative stitches and a lining is adhered to the inside of the outer layer.
The strap according to the invention has a decorative seam or decorative stitches but the durability of the strap is not adversely affected when the seam or stitches have been chafed through. The durability of the strap is due to adhesion. As the lining is adhered to the outer leather layer, the seam or stitches are adhesively fixed too so that when the seam or stitches have been chafed through the threads cannot be pulled out and the strap does not split in that the outer layer separates from the lining.
In one embodiment of the invention the lining is rectangular in cross-section and the outer layer embraces continuously the liner at the two ends of its crosssection and has a tapered beadlike portion extending to the free edges of the lining.
A strap according to this embodiment is particularly durable because it has no free cut edges outside of the decorative seams but beadlike edge portions are provided, which ensure a good joint and afford protection at the edge of the strap. Within the scope of the invention, the decorative seams or decorative stitches may extend along the edges and particularly in the area which is engageable by a buckle having a tongue or by a clamping buckle.
In another embodiment, the decorative scams or decorative stitches are arranged in that portion which is visible when the strap is closed.
The invention is applicable, e.g., to straps made of leather, plastics materials or textiles of any kind, such as belts, pull-through watch wristlets, which consist of two parts, namely, a perforated part and a buckled part, or an unperforated part and a part provided with a clamping buckle. The two parts may be designed for connection to a watch housing having fixed loops by means of adhesive joints, or for connection to a watch housing provided with spring loops.
Details of the invention will be explained with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which embodiments of the strap according to the invention are shown diagrammatically and by way of example.
FIG. I is a top plan view showing a strap provided with a buckle having a tongue.
FIGS. 2 to 5 are transverse sectional views showing various embodiments.
The straps shown consist of an outer layer 1 and a lining 2, which are adhesively connected.
The outer layer 1 is provided with decorative scams or decorative stitches, which extend along the edges of the outer layer 1 but may alternatively form any desired pattern. These decorative seams or decorative stitches 3 are covered on the inside of the outer layer 1 by the lining 2 and are thus protected from damage. By the lining 2 adhered to the outer layer 1, the decorative seams or decorative stitches 3 are retained so that even in case of damage to said seams or stitches no thread ends can emerge from the strap.
In the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the outer layer 1 and the lining 2 are tapered in cross-section toward the edges. The outer layer 1 is provided with decorative scams or decorative stitches 3.
According to FIG. 3, the outer layer 1 and the lining 2 are rectangular in cross-section. The outer layer 1 is again provided with decorative scams or decorative stitches 3.
FIG. 4 illustrates a strap in which the outer layer 1 provided with decorative seams or decorative stitches 3 is folded around the lining 2 and a covering strip 4 is provided on the underside.
According to FIG. 5, the lining 2 is rectangular in cross-section and the outer layer has enlarged edge portions, which form edge beads 5 that extend around and cover the free edges of the lining 2. Decorative seams or decorative stitches 3 are again provided in the outer layer 1.
The embodiments shown and described serve only to illustrate the nature of the invention, which is not restricted to details.
What is claimed is:
l. A strap comprising an outer layer and a lining adhesively bonded to the outer layer, and decorative stitching extending through only the outer layer and secured between said outer layer and said lining, whereby said stitching is adhesively fixed so that when said stitching has chafed through said stitching cannot be pulled out.
2. A strap as claimed in claim 1, said lining having a rectangular cross section and said outer layer having tapering bead-like portions which embrace the edges of said lining.
3. A strap as claimed in claim 1, said decorative stitching extending along the edges of the strap.
4. A strap as claimed in claim 1, and a buckle secured at one end of said strap, said strap adjacent its other end having a portion which is engageable by said buckle to close said strap, said decorative stitching extending in said portion which is engageable by said buckle.
5. A strap as claimed in claim 4, said buckle having atongue.

2. A strap as claimed in claim 1, said lining having a rectangular cross section and said outer layer having tapering bead-like portions which embrace the edges of said lining.
3. A strap as claimed in claim 1, said decorative stitching extending along the edges of the strap.
