SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 390,329, dated October 2, 1888.

To all 1071 0127, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUoUs'r F. L. WILLA- TOWSKY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Circuit Controllers, ofwhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new form of electric connection especially adapted for doors, windows, floors, and other locations in a sys tem of burglaralarms, and arranged so that it can be readily changed from a circuit-breaker to a circuit-closer.
In the accompanying drawings the device is illustrated on an enlarged scale.

The device consists of the combination of a base-plate, a, two upright posts, I), provided with bearings, a rotary shaft or spindle, 0, having a screw-head, d, and supported in said bearings, an insulator, 0, carried upon said base and provided with a projecting spring, f, which has an in wardly-turned spring or arm,
{1, a pin, h, secured to the spindle and normally pressing against the said arm 9 when the device is to be employed as a circuitbreaker, a cam, '1', passing loosely through the base-plate and carried by the said spindle, a set-screw, 7', located upon the cam and normally screwed tightly against the spindle, so that the spindle will move with the cam, a spring, Z, having at its middle portion a coil, Z, and secured to the cam, an elevated guide, on, for one end of the spring, and suitable screw holes, n, in the base-platc. whereby the device may be attached to the door or other desired location.

A similar motion of the cam will cause the pin to impinge against the spring and close the circuit. In either of the two cases the spring Zforces the cam and pin back into their original positions as soon as the cam is liberated. It may be'noticed that the pin in its motion has a scraping or rubbing effect upon the springf, thereby insuring good eontact. The device may be easily changed from a circuit-breaker to a circuit-closer, affording a great convenience and economy in its manufacture and use. When employed as a footswitch, in which case it is located on the floor,
it is not clogged by dust and sweepings, for such can drop through the space around the cam without interfering with the points of contact. In such use the device would have an inverted position from that shown in the drawings. Heretoforc it has been usual in lioor-connections to have a projecting plunger extending above the floor, and the same is often bent by a brisk walker, whereas this cam or lever-cam may be pressed upon either perpendicularly or obliquely, and yet it will operate-z. (2., it will pass through the hole in the plate and operate the contacts.
In practice the two pillars or posts Z) are closer together and the insulator is moved nearer to the cam, so that the device occupies I reserve the right to make similar changes not shown and not possessed of patentable novelty.
I claim as my invention 1. A circuit-controller consisting of the conr an insulator which carries a spring-contact, a spindle provided with a set-screw and with a cam for the purpose, as described, of operating to make and break the circuit, a contactvpin secured to said spindle, and a retractile spring attached to the said spindle.
