Abstract

A record player cyclic mechanism having a driving gear centered under a record rotary plate coupled with a bigger gear provided with a perimetral toothless section which causes the stopping of the bigger gear after a full turn, this determining the cycle of operational movement and including a control device mounted on the bigger gear adjacent to the perimetral toothless section comprising a plate placed in the upper face of the bigger gear in a plane parallel thereto and freely pivoting on the face through a pin. The plate is provided with a vertical nail oriented upwardly and in a negative angle with relation to the turn of the driving gear on which it can rest. The plate also is provided with a quadrangular notch in which enters from its lower part a plane spindle projecting through a window provided in the bigger gear. The spindle is fixed perpendicularly to a plane cam, parallelly horizontal to the plate, the cam being pivotable under the bigger gear independently of the plate. The pin is common to the cam and the plate.

3 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures CONTROL DEVICE OF THE RECORD PLAYER CYCLIC MECHANISM The present invention relates to a control device for record player cyclic mechanism.
The cyclic mechanism initiates the start up of the automatic record players and the successive change of records. in combination with other position elements such as the record-press arm. There is no doubt that every principal movement originates on the turn of a regular size gear. This gear is provided with a channel that. as a cam, displaces a mechanism acting in the start-up and in the change of records. The gear must perform a complete turn for the start up and the change of each record.
The best known structure of this type of mechanism is that in which the gear, provided with a toothless perimetral section combines with another smaller driving gear. The driving gear is placed in the center of the plate which, in turn. clutches through its external edge with the motor pulley.
Thus. by logical consequence, when the toothless section of the bigger gear faces the smaller driving gear, its turn is interrupted until some means provides the gear with the necessary power to engage again with the driving gear.
It is an object of this invention to provide a device that absolutely ensures the success of such operation.
A further object of this invention is to provide two parts acting in reciprocal combination without appealing to mutual frictions or other non-accurate mechanisms.
This is accomplished by one ofthe parts being placed on the bigger gear and the other under it. the latter being the one that in the exact moment holds the upper part until it is impelled by a tooth placed on the driving axis. As the ensemble is mounted on the bigger gear. the motion translates to the same ensemble engaging again with the smaller gear. until it stops when its toothless section coincides before the start up of a cycle.
The present device operates efficiently and accurately, being at the same time simple and without complex mechanical combinations.
To provide a clearer understanding of the invention reference is now made to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. I shows a perspective view of the device of the present invention mounted on the bigger gear;
FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the device in its operative position free from the gear which is slightly outlined in order to compare it as a whole;
FIG. 2A is a diagrammatic plan view showing the re lationship of the flange and drive gear of the present invention;
FIG. 3 shows a side elevational view of the device mounted; and
FIG. 4 shows a perspective view of the device, from a side opposite to that appearing in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3.
In FIG. 1 the device 100 is mounted on gear 1, common to many types of automatic record changers, adjacent to the perimetral sector I where a toothless flat section is provided. The device is formed by a plate 2 placed over the upper face of the gear within the periphery thereof in a plane parallel to the plane of the gear. The plate pivots freely on a pin 9 and is held there by a security spring 3. The plate 2 has a vertical nail 4 oriented upwardly and in negative angle in relation with the turn of a smaller driving gear 5.
The plate 2 has a notch 6 in its edge 2', where a rectangular spindle 7 projecting from the cam 8 is inserted, crossing the window I provided in the bigger gear 1.
Cam 8 is in a horizontal plane parallel to plate 2 and is positioned under the lower face of the gear 1, and pivots about pin 9. It is an indispensable condition that the plate and the cam turn independently.
In FIG. 2 is shown plate 2 and cam 8, independent of gear 1, the entrance of spindle 7 into notch 6, the curve 8' shaped in the back of cam 8 and the subsequent position in negative angle of vertical nail 4. in relation with smaller gears 5 feed.
In FIG. 3 is shown record rotatory plate 10 connected to smaller gear 5 which in its flat upper projection or neck has a tooth ll placed at a height coinciding with vertical nail 4 of plate 2.
FIG. 4 shows the interrelation of the ensemble of parts allowing the movements initiating each operative cycle of gear 1.
The operation is as follows according to FIG. 4.
When the operator wishes to start up the record player. which will be in a neutral position after the final cycle, he first starts the motor which will rotatively drive the plate 10.
As a consequence. gear 5 which is a driving gear will turn.
As vertical nail 4 is placed in negative angle in relation with the turn of driving gear 5, and plate 2 is free. tooth 1] will not contact nail 4.
The operator then switches on a mechanism for operating arm 15 which in turn will move cam 8 which contacts the record 17 placed under gear 5. In turn the spindle 7 rests on edge 6' of notch 6. This will cause the interposition of vertical nail 4 with the frontal part of tooth 11.
This impact will cause the displacement of the device in the same direction as gear 5 turns and as a consequence gear 1 will turn sufficiently so as to allow the first tooth subsequent to the flat section I' to join gear 5. This will cause a cyclic turn of operating gear 1 until the toothless section again coincides with gear 5 at which time gear 1 will stop and arm 15 will have already retracted. When back 8' of cam 8 passes over record 17 cam 8 moves sufficiently to prevent nail 4 from being in a position to engage tooth 11.
If the conventional record press arm (not shown) has already reached its lower position or another record has been reset, the new stop cycle is obtained when the former record has reached its end and the pick-up has moved rapidly from the needle crossing the spiral of the center of the record. and arm 15 is again in motion by means of plate 14, connected to the vertical axis 13 of the pick-up 16.
As each revolution of gear 1 causes the pick-up removal while there are records on the conventional central column. or the stop of the whole automatic mechanism when there are no more records, the cycles will follow according to that sequence.
What is claimed is:
1. A record player cyclic mechanism having a driving gear centered under a record rotatory plate coupled with a bigger gear provided with a perimetral toothless section which causes the stopping of the bigger gear after a full turn, thus determining the cycle of operational movement and including a control device mounted on said bigger gear adjacent to the perimetral toothless section comprising a plate placed in the upper face of said gear in a plane parallel thereto and freely pivoting on said face through a pin, said plate being provided with a vertical nail oriented upwardly and in negative angle with relation to the turn of the driving gear on which it can rest, said plate also being provided with a quadrangular notch in which enters from its lower part a plane spindle projecting through a window provided in said bigger gear, said spindle is fixed perpendicularly to a plane cam, parallelly horizontal to record placed under said driving gear.

Claims (3)

1. A record player cyclic mechanism having a driving gear centered under a record rotatory plate coupled with a bigger gear provided with a perimetral toothless section which causes the stopping of the bigger gear after a full turn, thus determining the cycle of operational movement and including a control device mounted on said bigger gear adjacent to the perimetral toothless section compriSing a plate placed in the upper face of said gear in a plane parallel thereto and freely pivoting on said face through a pin, said plate being provided with a vertical nail oriented upwardly and in negative angle with relation to the turn of the driving gear on which it can rest, said plate also being provided with a quadrangular notch in which enters from its lower part a plane spindle projecting through a window provided in said bigger gear, said spindle is fixed perpendicularly to a plane cam, parallelly horizontal to said plate, said cam being pivotable under said bigger gear independently of said plate, said pin being common to both said cam and said plate.
2. The record player of claim 1, wherein said driving gear carries a tooth adapted to butt said vertical nail of the upper plate, said plate having the capacity of turning.
3. The record player of claim 1, wherein said cam presents a curved back able to rest on the edge of the record placed under said driving gear.
