Abstract

A door blade of the kind comprising a frame work of wood or a wood like material covered by plate means, characterised by a rigid frame member consisting of profiled beams of a hard and stiff material such as iron or aluminium, extending circumferentially of the door blade and being rigidly secured to the said frame work thereof. The door blade maintains its character of a wooden door, but it is highly stabilized against deformations when comprising the said stiff, extra frame.

The door blade maintains its character of a wooden door, but it is highly stabilized against deformations when comprising the said stiff, extra frame.
9 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures PATENTEDJUN 17 I975 WOODEN DOOR BLADES The present invention relates to a door blade of the kind comprising a frame work of wood or a similar material covered by suitable plate means at both sides. It is a well known problem that many doors, especially wooden outer doors, have a tendency to sink or to be slightly bent or twisted during the years, so that they are difficult to close or do not close sufficiently tightly. Many attempts have been made for providing stabilized constructions of wooden doors, but generally these attempts have failed, at least if the doors should not be too solid and heavy.
It is the purpose of the invention to provide a wooden door blade which is stabilized against deformations in a simple yet effective and cheap manner.
According to the invention there is provided a door blade of the type referred to, i.e., generally made as a lightweight construction including a wooden framework or corresponding interior carrier element covered by suitable plate means at both sides, and further comprising a rigid frame element consisting of profiled beams of a hard and stiff material such as iron or aluminium and located adjacent the outer edge of the door and rigidly connected to the wooden framework thereof. Experiments have shown that by this simple arrangement the wooden door will be highly stabilized against deformations.
The invention is explained in more detail in the following with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 is a perspective view, partly in section, of a door blade according to an embodiment of the invention.

FIG. 3 is a sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the invention.
The door 2 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 is basically made as an ordinary wooden door comprising a wooden frame 4 and interior wooden beams 6 extending horizontally or vertically, these parts being covered at both sides with suitable platings 8, unbroken or as shown in FIG. 2 consisting of boards 10 joined in any suitable manner as shown at 12.
In connection with the frame 4, according to the invention, there is provided a metal frame 14 made of rectangular cross sectional iron or steel pipe lengths welded together in the corners and secured rigidly to the frame 4, preferably by means of screws 16 as shown in FIG. 2.
The door hinges may in a very simple manner be secured to the metal frame 14 directly by welding as shown at 18, whilst the stationary parts of the hinges 20 may be secured to the rigid door frame 22 in any convenient and known manner.
It is advantageous to mount the metal frame 14 in the manner shown, but. ofcourse. it may be covered by the plating 8 out to the outer edge thereof as shown at 9 or to be mounted otherwise in connection with the frame 4. e.g. in an interior recess therein as shown at 15. The metal frame should not necessarily be a closed profile, but it is believed that such a profile is the most advantageous.
FIG. 3 shows a preferred embodiment in which the veneer plating 8 at the inner side of the outer door is secured by glueing to a wooden mounting frame 26 which is then in its turn secured to the main frame 4 by means of screws 28, the heads of which are covered by the outside plating 10. Hereby the cross section of the main frame 4 may be simple rectangular. Only adjacent the hinges 20 the frame 4 is provided with a recess for receiving the hinge leaf 30 of the movable hinge part, this leaf being welded or screwed to the metal frame 14 so as to be held flat thereagainst. A sealing list 24 is mounted along the inner edge of the door edge receiving rebate of the rigid door frame 22.
The core of the door may be of wood and insulating material (see FIG. 3) covered by platings of wood, metal, plastics or another material, and the reinforcing frame 14 may be of iron, steel, aluminium, or another metal, exceptionally even fibre reinforced artificial resin. The wooden door, of course, may be provided with a glass window, as shown in FIG. 1, according to the requirements. It is an important feature that the metal frame 14 is mounted entirely at one side of the door, preferably at the inner side, whereby no coldconductor is established. It will be appreciated that in spite of the use of the metal frame the door blade does in no way loose its character of a wooden door.
What is claimed is:
1. A door blade of the insulating builtup type comprising an internal framework means including a wooden peripheral edge frame, said peripheral edge frame extending peripherally of the door blade, and said peripheral edge frame having a peripheral recess at one side thereof,
at least two panel plate means for covering said internal framework means, each of said two panel plate means secured to opposite sides of said internal framework means, thereby forming opposite surfaces of a door blade, and
reinforcing frame means for reinforcing the resulting structure of said panel plate means covering said internal framework means, said reinforcing frame means being formed of profiled beams of a rigid metal material with said profiled beams being rigidly joined at corners of said reinforcing frame means, said profiled beams having a hollow crosssectional configuration, and
said profiled beams of said reinforcing frame means being rigidly secured in said peripheral recess of said wooden peripheral edge frame for extending along the periphery of said resulting structure only at one side of said resulting structure such that said reinforcing frame means is spaced from the panel plate means at the opposite side of said resulting structure.
2. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said profiled beams consist of iron or steel and are welded together at said corners of said reinforcing frame means.
3. A door blade according to claim 2, characterised in that door hinges are secured to one of the profiled beams by welding.
4. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said internal framework means is formed of wood or a wood-like material.
5. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said at least two panel plate means are formed of a material including one of wood, metal and plastics.
6. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said reinforcing frame means are formed of a material ineluding one of iron, steel, aluminum, and fiber re'inforced synthetic resin.
7. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said one side of said resulting structure that said reinforcing frame means is secured is the inner side of the door blade.

Claims (9)

1. A door blade of the insulating builtup type comprising an internal framework means including a wooden peripheral edge frame, said peripheral edge frame extending peripherally of the door blade, and said peripheral edge frame having a peripheral recess at one side thereof, at least two panel plate means for covering said internal framework means, each of said two panel plate means secured to opposite sides of said internal framework means, thereby forming opposite surfaces of a door blade, and reinforcing frame means for reinforcing the resulting structure of said panel plate means covering said internal framework means, said reinforcing frame means being formed of profiled beams of a rigid metal material with said profiled beams being rigidly joined at corners of said reinforcing frame means, said profiled beams having a hollow cross-sectional configuration, and said profiled beams of said reinforcing frame means being rigidly secured in said peripheral recess of said wooden peripheral edge frame for extending along the periphery of said resulting structure only at one side of said resulting structure such that said reinforcing frame means is spaced from the panel plate means at the opposite side of said resulting structure.
2. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said profiled beams consist of iron or steel and are welded together at said corners of said reinforcing frame means.
3. A door blade according to claim 2, characterised in that door hinges are secured to one of the profiled beams by welding.
4. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said internal framework means is formed of wood or a wood-like material.
5. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said at least two panel plate means are formed of a material including one of wood, metal and plastics.
6. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said reinforcing frame means are formed of a material including one of iron, steel, aluminum, and fiber reinforced synthetic resin.
7. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said one side of said resulting structure that said reinforcing frame means is secured is the inner side of the door blade.
8. A door blade according to claim 1, wherein said internal framework means includes an internal core of a wood framework and insulating material.
9. A door blade according to claim 1, further comprising a glass window provided in said resulting structure.
