A disposer with a sacking device comprising a milling apparatus and a revolving turret supporting a number of sack stands to be moved in turn to and from a position below the discharge of the milling apparatus for receiving in a sack mounted in an open position on the sack stand the disintegrated refuse from the milling apparatus discharge. A shaking apparatus is provided as well as means for operatively interconnecting this shaking apparatus and the sack stand temporarily disposed below the milling apparatus discharge for vertically shaking said sack stand and the sack carried thereby during the filling.

1 DISPOSER WITH A SACKING DEVICE The invention relates to a disposer with a sacking device comprising a bin for receiving the refuse to be disintegrated, and a milling apparatus arranged at the lower end of the bin for disintegration of the refuse received thereby.
According to the invention there is provided a disposer wherein a number of separate sack stands for carrying each a sack mounted in an open position are supported on a transport device for moving the sack stands along a continuous path in which they are brought one at a time into a position below the milling apparatus to receive disintegrated refuse discharged from the milling apparatus and are movable vertically within limits in relation to the transport device, and wherein there are provided means to be engaged and disengaged by the movement of an individual sack stand to and from the position below the milling apparatus, respectively, and shaking means for shaking vertically the sack stand and a sack carried thereby in relation to the transport device.
By the invention there is provided a rational way of handling disintegrated refuse allowing efficient sacking of the refuse by means of a wholly automatic process precluding unhygienic manual handling of the refuse.
To elucidate the invention an illustrative embodiment thereof will be described in detail below with reference to the enclosed drawings in which FIG. 1 is a side elevation of the disposer with a sacking device according to one embodiment of the invention;
FIG. 2 is an end view of the disposer proper;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary plan view ofa rotating means pertaining to the sacking device;
FIG. 4 is a side elevation of a carriage pertaining to the sack stand; and
FIG. 5 is a rear view of the carriage of FIG. 4.
The disposer proper comprises a milling apparatus provided with rotating knives for disintegration and grinding of delivered refuse. The arrangement of these knives forms no part of the invention and therefore it will not be described at greater length. The milling apparatus is mounted on a stand 11 and is disposed at the lower end of a bin 12 for reception of the refuse to be disintegrated. Said bin can be connected at its upper end with a refuse transport unit for direct reception of the refuse but it can also be charged with refuse that has been collected in sacks or bags by introducing the sacks or bags one at a time in inverted position into the bin. To make the introduction of the sacks or bags easier a side wall 13 of the bin is pivoted at the lower end thereof and tiltable by means ofa linkage 14 having an operating handle 15, to an essentially horizontal position in which a sack or bag can be placed lying on the wall and having the mouth thereof facing the bin. By means of the linkage the wall is lifted into its vertical position while tilting the sack or bag into an inverted position in the bin, the linkage being arranged in such a way that the wall is locked by it in its vertical position. The two side walls 16 of the bin which are transverse to the pivoted side wall 13 may be pivotally mounted at their upper ends and be connected with an eccentric or a crank which is driven by the milling apparatus or its drive, to be imparted a short range reciprocating movement outwards and inwards by means of which the sack or bag is being constantly compressed. In this way it is obviated that the sack or bag gets stuck in the bin. The sack or bag thus gradually slides down the bin and is ground together with its contents. Instead of using moving walls there may be provided movable means for the compression of the sack or bag inside the bin.
For the reception ofthe ground refuse there is a sacking device comprising a revolving turret l8 rotatable around a vertical shaft 17. This turret has six arms and carries thereon five sack stands and one metal container 20. The turret is stepwise rotatable such that the arms may be located in turn in register with the disposer. For revolving the turret there is provided an electric motor 21 connected by means of a crank with a pivoted arm 23 swingable with respect to the turret, said arm being arranged to drivingly engage a ratchet 25 over a spring pawl 24, said ratchet being fixedly connected to the turret for turning it in a clock-wise direction as seen in FIG. 3, whereas the pawl will yield and slide inoperatively over the ratchet when the arm returns in a counter-clockwise direction. Each stroke of the arm 23 corresponds to movement of the revolving turret over the angle spacing adjacent arms of the turret. With arm 23 there is connected an arm 26 protruding in the diametrically opposed direction and carrying a plate 27. This plate serves as a shutter for closing the discharge of the disposer when the turret is being rotated and for opening this discharge again after anew rotational position has been reached by the turret as will be described below.
Each sack stand comprises a frame 28 supported by means of hooks 29 on bars forming part of the turret, and these hooks are relatively deep so that the frame can be reciprocated a short distance vertically on the turret without disengageing the bars. As part of the sack stand there is provided a carriage 30 with wheels 31 and handles 32 and this carriage is detachably supported on frame 28 by means of a lower support 33 on the frame and a protruding hook arm 34 on the carriage. The carriage is arranged for mounting of a sack or bag 35 in an open position. On the frame there is rotatably mounted in bearings a roller 36, which, when a sack stand (frame 28 with a carriage 30 mounted on it) is introduced below the discharge of the milling apparatus 10, will roll onto a cam rail 37 and, when the sack stand is in exact register with the discharge, will engage a notch formed in the cam rail. This cam rail is coupled to a shaking drive, e.g. a crank or an eccentric driven by the milling apparatus, by means of which it is imparted a short range reciprocating movement vertically. The sack stand engaging the cam rail is thus imparted a corresponding movement having the character of a vertical vibrational movement or shaking movement the stroke of which is short enough for the sack stand notto be lifted off the turret at the hooks. The sack stand which is in its position below the discharge of the milling apparatus will thus be shaken vertically for the whole period when the ground refuse is delivered into the sack suspended on the sack stand, whereby the disintegrated refuse will be well packed in the sack.
Below the milling apparatus there is provided a sensor comprising a slightly bent bar 38 which is biassed by means of a spring onto the sack just below the mouth thereof. This sensor is coupled over an arm 39 to a micro-breaker controlling the operation of the milling apparatus. When a sack stand with an empty sack comes into position below the milling apparatus, the empty sack will yield to the spring biassed sensor and the milling apparatus will be started by a signalfrom the micro-breaker. When the contents of the sack is on a level with the sensor this will be forced out by the contents against the spring bias and the microbreaker will be actuated to stop the milling device and to start the drive motor of the turret. As long as the drive motor is operating the milling apparatus is deactivated and only when the turret has been moved one step it is operated again. This cyclization can easily be arranged by using electric circuits and since this belongs to the domain of elementary control techniques these circuits need not be described at greater length here.
When a sack below the milling apparatus has been filled, the turret is moved one step and in the course of this movement shutter 27 will be introduced below the discharge of the milling apparatus. The leading edge of this shutter with respect to the movement of the turret is at the rear edge of the sack which is at this stage below the milling apparatus. At the same time as this sack is being removed from the position below the milling apparatus by the movement of the turret, the shutter will thus pass in below the milling apparatus and close its discharge the shutter extending over an angle large enough to keep the discharge closed during the whole movement required to bring the next sack into position below the discharge of the milling apparatus. When arm 23 returns during the inoperative stroke thereof the shutter will be returned in order to wholly uncover the discharge of the milling apparatus. By closing the discharge in this manner it is obviated that refuse will fall down on the floor from the milling appara' tus when sacks are being changed.
After all five sack stands have been introduced in turn below the milling apparatus to receive disintegrated material, the container is passed in under the milling apparatus. At this point a cam 40 on the rotational means will be brought into engagement with a release lever 41 which, over a linkage 42, is coupled to an outlet valve in a tank 43 mounted on the bin and containing rinsing or fumigating fluid, in order to bring the release lever into operative position with reference to the arm 23 which, at the end of its operative stroke, will actuate the release lever. In this way the outlet valve will be opened and the fluid will be flushed through the milling apparatus for cleansing and fumigating it. The fluid is collected in container 20.
It is possible to combine the drive of the turret with a selector by means of which a predetermined stand 19 may be brought on each occasion into position below the bin by setting the selector. In this way a selected sacking of the refuse delivered to the bin may be easily achieved by indicating on the selector which stand is to be introduced under the bin for reception of refuse of a certain kind. However, this'system presupposes that the refuse is assorted already at the delivery to the bin.
I claim:
1. A disposer with a sacking device, comprising a bin for receiving the refuse to be disintegrated,
a milling apparatus arranged at the lower end of the bin for disintegration of the refuse received thereby,
a number of individual stands for carrying each a sack mounted in an open position. a transport device,
meanns supporting said sack stands on said transport device for limited vertical movement in relation to the transport device, said sack stands being movable one at a time by means of the transport device to a position below the milling apparatus to receive disintegrated refuse discharged therefrom, shaking means,
means for operatively connecting the stands one at a time with said shaking means, said means being engaged and disengaged by the movement of a sack stand to and from the position below the milling apparatus, respectively, for shaking vertically the sack stand and a sack carried thereby in relation to the transport device when in said position,
and with said means operatively connecting the sack stands with the shaking means comprising a cam rail connected with the shaking means to be imparted thereby a reciprocating movement vertically, and a roller on each sack stand arranged to roll onto the rail by the movement of the sack stand to said position below the milling apparatus in order that the sack stand shall rest with at least part of its weight on said rail.
2. A disposer according to claim 1 wherein each sack stand comprises a first wheeled element, a second element supported on said transport device by said supporting means, and means detachably connecting said first element with said second element.
3. A disposer as claimed in claim 1 wherein said transport device comprises a revolving turret, further comprising a step feeding mechanism operatively connected with said revolving turret to rotate the turret step by step each step corresponding to the spacing of the sack stands supported by the turret; as well as a shutter for closing the discharge of the milling apparatus, and means operatively connected with aaid shutter for introducing the shutter below said discharge during the movement of the revolving turret one step and returning the shutter to an open position while the revolving turret is at rest, the shutter successively closing the discharge while a sack stand is being removed from its position below the discharge, and keeping it closed while the following sack stand is being moved into position below the discharge.

Claims (3)

1. A disposer with a sacking device, comprising a bin for receiving the refuse to be disintegrated, a milling apparatus arranged at the lower end of the bin for disintegration of the refuse received thereby, a number of individual stands for carrying each a sack mounted in an open position, a transport device, meanns supporting said sack stands on said transport device for limited vertical movement in relation to the transport device, said sack stands being movable one at a time by means of the transport device to a position below the milling apparatus to receive disintegrated refuse discharged therefrom, shaking means, means for operatively connecting the stands one at a time with said shaking means, said means being engaged and disengaged by the movement of a sack stand to and from the position below the milling apparatus, respectively, for shaking vertically the sack stand and a sack carried thereby in relation to the transport device when in said position, and with said means operatively connecting the sack stands with the shaking means comprising a cam rail connected with the shaking means to be imparted thereby a reciprocating movement vertically, and a roller on each sack stand arranged to roll onto the rail by the movement of the sack stand to said position below the milling apparatus in order that the sack stand shall rest with at least part of its weight on said rail.
2. A disposer according to claim 1 wherein each sack stand comprises a first wheeled element, a second element supported on said transport device by said supporting means, and means detachably connecting said first element with said second element.
3. A disposer as claimed in claim 1 wherein said transport device comprises a revolving turret, further comprising a step feeding mechanism operatively connected with said revolving turret to rotate the turret step by step each step corresponding to the spacing of the sack stands supported by the turret; as well as a shutter for closing the discharge of the milling apparatus, and means operatively connected with aaid shutter for introducing the shutter below said discharge during the movement of the revolving turret one step and returning the shutter to an open position while the revolving turret is at rest, the shutter successively closing the discharge while a sack stand is being removed from its position below the discharge, and keeping it closed while the following sack stand is being moved into position below the discharge.
