Claims (13)

1. In a printer, a plurality of rotatably mounted printing type carriers, a casing structure receiving said carriers and having an access opening, a cover for selectively closing said opening and being mounted for displacement between closed and opened positions, a plurality of selectively displaceable selector elements carried by said cover for selecting the printing positions of said carriers, motion transmitting means connecting each selector element to one of said carriers for imparting selective displacement of the former to the latter, reset means operatively connected to said selector elements and being selectively operable to reset said selector elements to preselected positions, and means locking said cover in its closed position until said reset means is seleCtively operated to reset said selector elements to said pre-selected positions.
1. In a printer, a plurality of rotatably mounted printing type carriers, a casing structure receiving said carriers and having an access opening, a cover for selectively closing said opening and being mounted for displacement between closed and opened positions, a plurality of selectively displaceable selector elements carried by said cover for selecting the printing positions of said carriers, motion transmitting means connecting each selector element to one of said carriers for imparting selective displacement of the former to the latter, reset means operatively connected to said selector elements and being selectively operable to reset said selector elements to pre-selected positions, and means locking said cover in its closed position until said reset means is seleCtively operated to reset said selector elements to said pre-selected positions.
2. The printer defined in claim 1 comprising means for mounting said reset means on said cover.
3. The printer defined in claim 2 wherein means are provided for mounting said cover for pivotal displacement between said opened and closed positions.
4. In a printer, a plurality of rotatably mounted printing type carriers, a casing structure receiving said carriers and having an access opening, a cover for selectively closing and opening, means mounting said cover for displacement between closed and open positions, a plurality of selectively displaceable selector elements carried by said cover for selecting the printing positions of said carriers, motion transmitting means connecting each selector element to one of said carriers for imparting selective displacement of the former to the latter, reset means operatively connected to said selector elements and being selectively operable to reset said selector elements to pre-selected positions, and means operable upon displacement of said cover to said closed position for locking said cover in said closed position, said locking means being operated by said reset means when the latter is selectively operated to reset said selector elements to release said cover for displacement from its closed position to its opened position.
5. The printer defined in claim 4 wherein said selector elements are rotatably mounted thumb wheels.
6. The printer defined in claim 5 wherein said motion transmitting means comprises a cable, and wherein said means mounting said cover provides for pivotal displacement of said cover between said opened and closed positions.
7. The printer defined in claim 4 wherein said reset means is carried by said cover and includes a manually manipulatable part that is accessible exteriorly of said casing structure for resetting said selector elements to said pre-selected positions, and wherein said means mounting said cover provides for pivotal displacement of said cover between said opened and closed positions.
8. The printer defined in claim 7 wherein said selector elements are rotatably mounted thumb wheels, and wherein said motion transmitting means comprises a cable.
9. The printer defined in claim 7 comprising a frame from supporting said carriers, said casing structure and said cover, said locking means being operative to lock said cover to said frame upon displacement of the cover to its closed position.
10. In a printer, a plurality of rotatably mounted printing type carriers, a casing structure receiving said carriers and having an access opening, a cover for selectively closing said opening, means mounting said cover for displacement between closed and opened positions, a plurality of rotatably mounted thumb wheels carried by said cover, motion transmitting means connecting each thumb wheel to one of said carriers for imparting rotation of the former to the latter, said thumb wheels being selectively rotatable to select the printing positions of said carriers, and manually manipulatable pushbutton reset means carried by said cover and being operatively connected to said thumb wheels for selectively and concomitantly resetting said thumb wheels to pre-selected positions.
11. The printer defined in claim 10 wherein said means mounting said cover provides for pivotal displacement of said cover between said opened and closed positions.
12. In a printer, a printing type carrier-receiving housing having an access opening, a cover for selectively closing said opening, means mounting said cover for displacement between opened and closed positions, said cover having an opening and being formed to optionally and interchangeably mount a pair of different print selector assemblies, each of assemblies having a support frame mountable on said cover and a plurality of manually manipulatable selector elements for selectively rotating printing type carriers in said housing and supported by said frame to extend througH said opening in said cover for access from the exterior of said casing structure when the frame is mounted on said cover, the selector elements of one of said assemblies being rotatably mounted thumb wheels that provide a mechanical carrier-rotating input, and the selector elements of the other of said assemblies being pushbutton switches that are connected in an electrical circuit to provide an electrical carrier-rotating input.
