Abstract
A replaceable zipper unit which can be manufactured in various lengths to attach to a boot. The zipper unit is mounted on two pieces of leather. The unit is punctured with holes so that the device may be fastened by eyelets or by laces through the holes to a boot. Removal of the eyelets or laces on an assembled boot permits a worn zipper unit to be discarded and to be replaced by a fresh unit.

BOOT ZIPPER SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION My invention relates to a replaceable zipper unit which may be installed on, or readily removed from a boot by means of eyelets. An advantage of my invention is that when the boots or zipper are worn out, the zipper unit can be replaced or transferred to another shoe or boot.
A further advantage of my invention is that an elasticize d lace to fit the punctured holes of the unit may be used to lace this device into boots instead of employing eyelets, and as a means of imparting elasticity between the zipper unit and an attached boot.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:
Turning now descriptively to the drawing, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views; FIG. 1 illustrates the zipper unit which is formed of a split section of leather 11 to which a conventional zipper mechanism 21 is stitched or otherwise permanently fastened. The external edges of the unit may be lined by stitching 12 in the case of the leather section 11 being formed of a double layer of material. The zipper slide 16 is joined to a split ring 14 which may be employed to latch into the loop 22 of lacing so as to lock the zipper slide 16 in place at any position along the zipper 21 when the unit 10 is fastened to a boot 25 by a means of lacing 26, as shown in FIG. 2.
Through holes 13 are perforated along each side of the length of zipper unit 10 so that the zipper unit 10 may be fastened to a boot by means of eyelets 17 as shown in FIG. 1, or by means of lacing 26 as shown in FIG. 2. The use of elastic lacing as the fastening means illustrated in FIG. 2 of the zipper unit 10 to the boot 25 permits a desirable degree of elasticity to the boot 25 in the closed position of the zipper slide 16.
Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A replaceable zipper unit adaptable for ready installation on or removal from a boot which is formed of a split sheet of material, the adjoining split edges of which are fastened to a conventional zipper mechanism, said unit being perforated along its length with holes on each side of the zipper mechanism and fastened to a boot by means of loops of elastic lacing, in which a split ring is fastened to the zipper slide so that the zipper slide may be latched in position by fastening the split ring through a loop of lacing adjacent the position of the zipper slide.
