Abstract

A drawer which may be mounted underneath a table which is equipped with folding legs, so that in the closed position of the drawer, the legs of the table may be folded alongside the sides of the table without interference with the drawer. The drawer is fitted to a strip member permanently attached to the underside of the table so that in the open position of the table the drawer may be open by lowering the drawer below the table border edges and pulling the drawer out from engagement with the strip member. The drawer is shaped so that in the retracted position of the drawer, the leg of the table may be folded in the conventional position, parallel to the border edge of the table, and underneath the table without interference from the drawer itself.

Podell [57] ABSTRACT A drawer which may be mountedunderneath a table which is equipped with folding legs, so that in the closed position of the drawer, the legs of the table may be folded alongside the sides of the table without interference with the drawer. The drawer is fitted to a strip member permanently attached to the underside of the table so that in the open position of the table the drawer may be open by lowering the drawer below the table border edges and pulling the drawer out from engagement with the strip member. The drawer is shaped so that in the retracted position of the drawer, the leg of the table may be folded in the conventional position, parallel to the border edge of the table, and underneath the table without interference from the drawer itself.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 1-3 illustrate the device which consists of a slidable drawer 20 attached to a guide strip that slides in a slot of an attachment with bracket 30. Attachment bracket 30 is mounted to the underside 14 of a folding table 23. One end of bracket is shaped in a U-shaped section 25 for fitting under, and around the sides and bottom of the border section 24 of the table. Border section 24 is mounted about the perimeter of the underside 14 of the table 23. The attachment bracket 30 is formed at its other end with an angle section 27 at right angles to the plate section 26 of the attachment member. Plate section 26 lies flush against the underside 14 of table 23. Angle section 27 joins at its other end with an angle member 28 that forms an angle of slightly greater than ninety degrees to the angled end 27 so as to form a lip to fit the end of a drawer in the closed position of the drawer. A slot 39 is formed in theangle end 27 of the attachment bracket 30 of a size and shape to permit a flat strip 10 to be fixed in slot 39 in loose engagement. End stops 38 of flat strip 10 prevent flat strip 10 from being pulled out of slot 39, when drawer 20, to which flat strip 10 is fastened, is opened. In the closed position of drawer 20, flat strip 10 may lie in a plane parallel to the underside 14 of the table. In the open mode of the drawer 20, flat strip 10 may form an angle with the underside of the table so that a drawer 20, fastened to flat strip 10, may clear the underside of the U-shape section of the attachment strip which surrounds the border strip 24 underneath the perimeter of the table 23.

Flat strip 10 thus slides in slot 39 formed in the angle section 27 of the attachment bracket 30 with end stops 38 at the free end of flat strip serving to prevent the end of flat strip 10 from being pulled through the slot 39. The front end section of drawer 20 is attached by strap 21 and clasp 22 so that in the closed position, the drawer 20 lies nested against the underside of attachment strip 30, strap 21 being fastened by .means of clasp 22 to the catch 12 mounted to the external face of attachment bracket 30.

The drawer 20 is shaped such that the container section 29 of the drawer lies a distance behind U-shaped section 18 at the front of the drawer 20. U-shaped section 18 of the drawer is of a size to enclose a recess 19, the cross-section of which is slightly larger than the cross-section of a leg 16 of the table 23. In the folded condition of the legs 16, a leg 16 will lie in recess 19 between the front face 13 of the drawer and the front face 36 of the container section 29 of the drawer. U-shaped section 18 of the drawer joins the front face 13 of the drawer with the front face 36 of the container section As shown in FIG. 3 when the table legs are in the open mode, legs 16 may be maintained in the erect position by hinge brackets 15. The closed drawer is located behind the border sides 24 which surround the underside of the perimeter of the table.

Attachment strap 21 and clasp 22 may be utilized to open the drawer by unfastening clasp 22 from catch 12 and pulling strap 21 downward so as to lower the drawer and U-shaped section 18 of the drawer below the border strip 24 and the attachment bracket U- shaped section 25 which surrounds the border section 24. Lowering of strap 21 serves to rotate the drawer downwards, pivoting about slot 39 in attachment bracket 30 which is fastened to the undersurface of the table. Once the drawer 20 has been thus rotated, it can then be pulled outward being supported by attached strip 10 which is engaged in slot 39 of bracket 30. The drawer may be replaced in position by sliding it back so that the drawer is under the table and the border strip. 24 and fastening clasp 22 to catch 12.

Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. An assembly adaptable for mounting to the undersurface of a folding leg table, the assembly comprising a removable drawer, said assembly comprising an attachment bracket which is fastened to the undersurface of a table, and a drawer which is slidably mounted to the attachment bracket by means of an attached guide strip which fits into a slot in the attachment bracket, said guide strip fastened to, and extending from the back of the drawer through a slot in an angle at the rear end of the attachment bracket, so that the front of the drawer may be lowered below the level of the border edges of the table and slid from underneath the table,

rated as an integral member of a folding leg table.

Claims

1. An assembly adaptable for mounting to the under-surface of a folding leg table, the assembly comprising a removable drawer, said assembly comprising an attachment bracket which is fastened to the undersurface of a table, and a drawer which is slidably mounted to the attachment bracket by means of an attached guide strip which fits into a slot in the attachment bracket, said guide strip fastened to, and extending from the back of the drawer through a slot in an angle at the rear end of the attachment bracket, so that the front of the drawer may be lowered below the level of the border edges of the table and slid from underneath the table, with the rear of the drawer being supported by the guide strip which loosely fits in the slot of the angle of the attachment bracket.

2. The combination as recited in claim 1, in which a strap is fastened to the front edge of the drawer, which front edge is fastened to the container section of the drawer by means of a U-shaped angle which fits over and about a folded leg of the table.

3. The combination as recited in claim 2 incorporated as an integral member of a folding leg table.
