Description

D. DRAWBAUGH.
Dressing Millstones.
Patented May .12. 1863.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FEICE.
DANIEL DRAWBAUGH, OF EBERLYS MILLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED MACHINE FOR LEVELING THE FACES OF MILLSTONES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 38,4 72, dated May-l2, 1863.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL DRAWBAUGH, ot' Eberlys Mills, Cumberland county, State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Tram and Red Staff for Leveling the Faces of Mill-Burrs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the shape and construction of the adjustable arm E and the manner of holding the frame A to the cockhead by movable steel dies N; also the shape and construction of the adjustable key T to hook into the rynd U.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation, as follows, to wit:
A represents the upright cone shaped tramming-frame, having three columns, B, resting on a circular flanged ring, 0, the flange resting in another grooved ring or bed-plate, D.
E represents a vertical arm with a curved top, which sets on a pivot at top of trammingframe A, and is regulated up or down by a set-screw above. This arm E has two forked curved ends, G, that grasp and fit round the ring 0 to help support the arm in its vertical position. The lower end of the arm extends out horizontally, and is fastened by screws to the red-staff H. It has two ears on each side, through which set-screws J pass,by which the staff is regulated and adjusted on either side by raising or lowering a screw J. The pen K is for the purpose of marking the uneven parts of the stone as the staff H is revolved. In tramming the lower stone, L, the frame A isset over the cockhead M and is held fast to the cockhead by movable steel dies N, that are set into the slot P of ring 0. The dies N are oblong shaped with a wedge-shaped edge, the edge resting against the cockhead, so as to assist in steadying the frame A. The screws R are for the purpose of adjusting and leveling the flange of the ring 0 in the groove S of the bed-plate D.
T represents a key, which hooks into the rynd U of the upper stone, Y, and is keyed fast to the frame A by a ightening-screw, W, operating above a triangular plate, X, which rests upon the ring 0, to tighten the frame A to the upper stone while being trammed or leveled.
I do not claim an upright frame with a projecting arm to the red-staff; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The shape and construction of the arm E, with its forked end G and adjustable screws J, that the red'statt' H may be regulated and adjusted on either side or at either end.
2. The shape and construction of the adjustable key T, as arranged and fastened to the rynd U of the upper stone or runner.
3. The upright trammingframe A, as herein described, in combination with the movable pointed dies N and circular bed-plate. forthe purpose of regulating the tramming and to be held firmly to the cockhead M.
DANL. DRAWBAUGH.
