sum 2 orv a WINDING DEVICE WITH DRIVE-ROLLER DRIVE Various improvements in known winding devices proceed from the problem of shortening the bobbinchange operation as much as possible and to prevent as far as possible interruption of the winding process in itself during the removal of the full bobbin and its replacement with an empty bobbin tube. For this there are bobbin changing devices with two or more bobbin holders which are swingable in such a way that, in each case, one of the bobbin holders with the empty bobbin tube can be brought into working position, i.e., lying against the driver roller, while the second bobbin holder is in aposition to effect exchange of the full bobbin for an empty bobbin tube. In the swinging of the device, the winding process is maintained by the momentum of the full bobbin until the thread passes into the range of the empty tube and is caught byit. See, for example, Swiss Pat. No. 463,342 and German Pat. No. 912,992. Further, it is a known practice to bring the empty tube to the intended circumferential velocity or to a somewhat higher circumferential velocity immediately before swinging it into the working position, whereby the catching of the thread is facilitated. A number of the known bobbin-changing devices have two or more bobbin holders on a swingable unit with chucks to grip the bobbins. These consist in general of tensioning elements pressed radially outward against the inside of the bobbin tube which can be released by a pressure rod arranged to slide axially in the axis of the chuck carrier. With the aid of toggle levers or the like engaging on the pressure rod and controlled via cams or the like it is possible to carry out the releasing of the chuck automatically during the swinging out of the full bobbin into the changing position. See German Pat. No. 912,992.
The winding devices of the above-described type that have become known present, however, a number of disadvantages which become noticeable especially in the case of high-speed winding machines. Thus, simple bobbin-changing devices, say of the type described in Swiss Pat. No. 463,342, can be equipped only by very complicated mechanisms for the drive for the empty tube to be swung into working position, while in a device corresponding to German Pat. No. 912,992 there is the further difficultythat, as a result of the operating mechanism for the chuck, the starting of the empty tubes would not be possible at all.
THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a winding device in which all the elements necessary for the gripping of the bobbin tube and starting and stopping of the bobbin holder after swinging out of the working position are united in a single compact unit and thus permit a simple and trouble-free execution of the bobbin change with the smallest possible space requirement. This is achieved according to the invention by a winding device with drive roller drive for the winding of endless threads onto a bobbin tube securely held by means of a chuck, with a pressure rod extending axially in the chuck for releasing the chuck and an electric or pressure-medium-operated drive motor for starting the empty bobbin or providing an additional drive moment in the chuck shaft. The winding device is characterized by a drive axle ofthe drive motor which is parallel or coaxial to the chuck and is axially slidable from rest position in two stages. In the first stage it drivingly engages the chuck shaft. In the second stage the pressure rod of the chuck is moved into releasing position. This combination can be incorporated into a bobbinchanging device rotatable or swingable between at least two predetermined positions, a predetermined working position and a rest position, as well as with an electric or fluid-operated drive motor for starting the empty spool. For this combination the drive motor is mounted in fixed position parallel to the chuck situated in rest position, or coaxial therewith and axially slidable.
The connection between the slidable drive motor and the shaft of the chuck may be achieved according to the invention in various ways. In one form, a fly wheel or annular gear is engaged on its inner peripheral surface by a pinion wheel or gear, preferably having a small radius, e.g., by gear teeth or by frictional contact. The wheel or gear on the axle of thedrive motor has means through which pressure is exertable on the pressure rod of the chuck upon axial shifting of this wheel or gear.
It is further possible to make the connection with a disk coupling. This coupling can be constructed in such a way that a first coupling disk guided by means of pins is pressed against a second coupling disk by springs. The coupling has a central bore through which means on the first coupling disk, suited according to form and material for the exertion of pressure, interacts with the pressure rod of the chuck.
An especially compact form of the winding device according to the invention is yielded if the drive motor, which can preferably be a fluid pressure-operated motor, is constructed in such a way that it acts itself as a hydraulically operated piston movable in a cylinder.
The drive means for the motor can be supplied through the rear guide rod, the latter being a hollow shaft. Likewise, the drive motor can be a piston rod movable in a cylinder and be securely joined with a hydraulically operated piston.
In a preferred form, the drive motor can be reversed in such a way that it generates a braking moment. This can be of especial advantage if the full bobbin is to be swung out of the working position and brought as rap idly and gently as possible to a standstill. In such a winding device according to the invention, then expediently between the parts of the coupling in itself, a friction synchronizing device is installed which in a simple form consists of a synchronizing disk standing under spring tension in the primary or secondary drive part of the coupling, which in the first phase of the coupling step interacts in clutch-like fashion with the face surface of the other coupling as a counterpart of the synchronizing disk.
Finally, it is also possible to carry out the coupling and decoupling of the drive motor through control arrangements which are operated by the sliding of the drive motor into the individual operating positions. For the switching off of the drive motor after. the starting of the empty tube there can be provided an arrangement sensing directly or indirectly the rotary or the peripheral velocity of the empty tube as control magnitude, upon which the drive motor is switched off on reaching the intended speed.

In FIG. 1 there is represented a simple form of the winding device according to the invention. The winding 1 lies against the drive roller 4 and winds the thread 6 running in through the traverse device 5. On the axle of the chuck 3 there is seated a coupling9, e.g., a driven wheel or pinion gear which has on its circumference a friction lining or a gearing 9a. Parallel to the axis of the bobbin holder 3, but somewhat offset there is a longitudinally slidable drive motor 16, which carries on its shaft as a coupling 10 a hollow fly wheel or annular gear. The wheel or gear has on the front edge of the inner cylindrical surface a friction lining or with a shallow tooth gearing 11 corresponding to that of the coupling 9. In the base of the hollow coupling 10 there is a raised part here in the form of a ring 13 which interacts with the pressure rod 7 of the chuck 3.
For the coupling of the motor 16 to the chuck shaft and for the releasing of the chuck there is a pressure cylinder 17. Its piston is slidable with the aid of the hydraulic feed lines and bleed-offlines 18 and 19 between the positions 24 (for releasing of the chuck), 25 (for coupling of the motor to the chuck shaft), and 26 (rest), the gears or linings being disengaged in positions 24 and 26.
A very compact construction is provided by including the drive motor in the cylinder-piston system. Thus it is possible, for example, (FIG. 5), to provide the easing of the drive motor 16 with a collar in the middle, which acts as a piston, while the casing itself is constructed as a piston rod. In FIG. 6 there is represented another possibility. Here, the casing of the motor 16 is itself constructed as a hydraulically operated piston movable in a cylinder.
In order to stop the piston in its middle position, there are springs 27 which are in a state of equilibrium in the middle position 25. Expedient, too, is the use of fettered springs (springs with limited spring path). Such a possibility is represented in FIG. 5. The path of the spring 27 is limited by a sleeve 21 which is slidable in the annular recess 23 until flange 22 strikes the annular shoulders inside the cylinder 17. On pressure relief, the drive motor assumes the coupling position 25, and the pressure rod 7 assumes the position shown under the urging of the coil spring 8.
There are various possibilities for the connection between drive motor and chuck or bobbin holder. There can be provided a hollow coupling 10 and a second coupling engaging the inner surface. The coupling 9 generally has a smaller diameter than the hollow coupling 10. The connection between the couplings can be one with relative rotation between couplings (FIG. 1)
or a tight or spline fit 11 and 12' in couplings 9, I0 and 9, 10" (FIGS. 2, 4, 5). It is also possible. however, to use, for example, a disk coupling corresponding to FIG. 3. There, a coupling disk 45 is guided on pins 46 and supported by means of springs on drive disk 44. Disk 45 engages disk 47 as the projection 13 engages the rod 7 and the pins 46 enter the blind holes in disk 47 and the hub 48 of the chuck 3 for positive drive connection.
The drive motor may be switchable in such a way that it generates a braking moment for the braking of the chuck shaft or for supporting of the braking process. In this case preferably a coupling according to FIG. 4 is used. The coupling has a tight or spline linkage by engagement of the keys l1 and keyways 12. The coupling is synchronized by means of the friction disk or clutch 35 which is supported by springs 36. The winding device in FIG. 5' and FIG. 7 has mechanical braking means 14 and 14' for braking of the chuck shaft.
In all the forms of the coupling according to the invention between drive motor and chuck or bobbin holder there is provided the possibility, in the end position 25 of the drive motor or of the driving coupling part, of bringing the pressure rod 7 of the chuck 3 in releasing position. For this reason the driving coupling part is to be provided with a member 13, 13' or 13" which is suited in form and material for the exertion of pressure on the pressure rod 7. This may be achieved by inset pressure plates or annular or bolt-shaped raised parts. In FIG. 3 the friction disk 45 contains, moreover, a bore which serves as passage for the pressure rod 7 or a raised part 13.
FIG. 5 shows a special form of the invention. Aside from the details already described, it is noteworthy that a chuck 3 can be borne on a swinging arm 2 and by swinging of the swinging arm can be moved against a drive roller 4 and traverse device 5. The drive motor with the cylinder 17 and the coupling part 10 is fastened by means of the mounting arm or bracket 28 to the swinging arm. It is also possible, however, to mount the drive motor 16, cylinder 17 and the coupling part 10 in fixed position with respect to the rest position of the chuck.
FIG. 7 shows a winding device according to the invention with bobbin changing device 32. The bobbin changing device 32 is driven by a swinging drive 31. In the bobbin changing device there are borne two rotatable chucks 3' and 3". Pin 33 is used to lock the swinging drive in its two, alternate driving positions. The drive roller 4 is fastened to a carriage 34 and movable in common with the traverse device 5 in the direction of the bobbin 1. The drive motor 16 and the cylinder 17 are mounted opposite the chuck 3" which is in rest position. It is expedient to bring the empty tube on the chuck 3", by means of the motor 16, to a peripheral speed which lies above the peripheral speed of the driver roller, before the chuck 3" or the empty tube is brought into working position. The chucks 3' and 3" have pressure rods 7' and 7" and couplings 9' and 9" like their respective parts shown in FIG. 5.
The hydraulic or pneumatic fluid is supplied through supply lines 43. An adjustable choke valve 40 is provided in the line from the motor 16.
It is thought that the invention and its numerous attendant advantages will be fully understood from the foregoing description, and it is obvious that numerous changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the severalparts withoutdeparting from the spirit or scope of the invention, or sacrificing any of its attendant advantages, the forms herein disclosed being preferred embodiments for the purpose of illustrating the invention.
The invention is hereby claimed as follows:
1. A winding device comprising a rotatable drive roller, a rotatable chuck with a chuck shaft, said chuck adapted to releasably hold thereon a winding bobbin for the winding of threads on said bobbin when rotatably driven by said drive roller, a pressure rod axially slidably mounted in said chuck shaft to a bobbinreleasing position and projecting from an end of said chuck, a drive motor adjacent said end of said chuck and having a rotatable drive shaft, coupling means having engageable and disengageable coupling members connected to the respective chuck and drive shafts, means for axially shifting said motor toward and away from said chuck, said engageable members drivingly connecting said motor shaft and said chuck shaft in one axial position of said motor and drivingly disconnecting said chuck shaft and said drive shaft in a second axial position of said motor, and pressure rod-engaging means operable in a third axial position of said motor for contacting and moving said pressure rod into said chuck to a position for releasing from said chuck a bobbin mounted on said chuck.

A winding device according to claim 1, and further comprising a bobbin-changing device movable between at least two predetermined positions, said device having mounted thereon at least two of said chucks with respective pressure rods axially slidably mounted thereon, one of said positions being a position for operable engagement of said drive roller with said bobbin, and said drive motor being positioned for engagement of said coupling members in another of said predetermined positions for engagement of said coupling members and starting rotation of an empty bobbin placed on the respective chuck.

A winding device according to claim 1, one of said coupling members being a hollow coupling and the other of said coupling members being movable inside said hollow coupling with means operatively engaging said hollow coupling member, and said pressure rodengaging means being mounted on the coupling member connected to said drive shaft.

A winding device according to claim 1, saidcoupling members comprising a first coupling disc yieldably mounted by spring means on said drive shaft, said disc being engageable with the end of said chuck shaft and axially aligned therewith, a central bore through said disc, and said pressure rod-engaging means being a member connected to said drive shaft and adapted to project through said bore and engage said pressure rod.
5. A winding device according to claim 1, said drive motor being mounted in a casing with its drive shaft projecting from said casing, and said means to axially shift said motor being fluid pressure-actuated means for shifting said motor axially in said casing.
6. A winding device according to claim 1 wherein said means for axially shiftingsaid motor is a fluid pressure actuated means embodying a piston connected to said motor.
7. A winding device as claimed in claim 6, said piston being a collar on said motor, and said collar and motor being mounted in a casing and axially movable therein by fluid pressure means.
8. A winding device according to claim 7, and spring means for positioning the drive motor in the absence of application of fluid pressure in a mid-position in said casing.
9. A winding device according to claim 1, said coupling means including means providing a positive, nonslipping connection of said coupling members, and one of said coupling members embodying a spring-mounted synchronizing disc on the last-mentioned coupling member.

Claims (8)

  1. 2. A winding device according to claim 1, and further comprising a bobbin-changing device movable between at least two predetermined positions, said device having mounted thereon at least two of said chucks with respective pressure rods axially slidably mounted thereon, one of said positions being a position for operable engagement of said drive roller with said bobbin, and said drive motor being positioned for engagement of said coupling members in another of said predetermined positions for engagement of said coupling members and starting rotation of an empty bobbin placed on the respective chuck.
  2. 3. A winding device according to claim 1, one of said coupling members being a hollow coupling and the other of said coupling members being movable inside said hollow coupling with means operatively engaging said hollow coupling member, and said pressure rod-engaging means being mounted on the coupling member connected to said drive shaft.
  3. 4. A winding device according to claim 1, said coupling members comprising a first coupling disc yieldably mounted by spring means on said drive shaft, said disc being engageable with the end of said chuck shaft and axially aligned therewith, a central bore through said disc, and said pressure rod-engaging means being a member connected to said drive shaft and adapted to project through said bore and engage said pressure rod.
  4. 5. A winding device according to claim 1, said drive motor being mounted in a casing with its drive shaft projecting from said casing, and said means to axially shift said motor being fluid pressure-actuated means for shifting said motor axially in said casing.
  5. 6. A winding device according to claim 1 wherein said means for axially shifting said motor is a fluid pressure actuated means embodying a piston connected to said motor.
  6. 7. A winding device as claimed in claim 6, said piston being a collar on said motor, and said collar and motor being mounted in a casing and axially movable therein by fluid pressure means.
  7. 8. A winding device according to claim 7, and spring means for positioning the drive motor in the absence of application of fluid pressure in a mid-position in said casing.
  8. 9. A winding device according to claim 1, said coupling means including means providing a positive, non-slipping connection of said coupling members, and one of said coupling members embodying a spring-mounted synchronizing disc on the last-mentioned coupling member.
