The supporting material is removable from the frames whereby the components may be rolled into a compact package for storage purposes.
2 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures 1 BACK REST The invention relates to articles of furniture and in particular, to chairs, lounging devices and the like nor mally used for outdoor relaxation and enjoyment.
According to the present invention there is provided a back rest to which a canvas material is snap-buttoned to a pair of folding parts to facilitate disassembly and storage. The parts are frame works hinged together so that two persons can relax together back-to-back and while doing so in effect lend additional support to the structure which is fixed to the ground through the use of spikes secured to the bottom of the frame'in universal bearings.
One object of the invention is to provide a new and improved back rest especially suitablefor outdoor use.
FIG. 3 is an elevation showing the back rest adapted for use by two persons; and
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary view showing the bottom portion of one of the frames of the back rest.
Referring to the drawings, back rest 10 includes a pair of frames 12 and 14 hinged together. The frames are supported by tie rods 18 and 18a at their hinged end and rods 19 and 19a at their bottom ends. As shown in FIG. 1 a single piece of canvas material 16 is snap-buttoned to the frame 12 having pockets for the insertion of the rods 18 and 19.
Preferably the canvas material 16 is snap-buttoned to each frame and the tie rods 18 and 18a removably mounted in each frame are inserted in pockets at the top of the material on the two sides of the rest. Both materials have back portions 20 and 20a and seat flap portions 22 and 22a, as shown in FIG. 3, the latter extending on the ground beyond the frames 12 and 14 which are inserted in the ground by swivel spikes 26 mounted at the free ends thereof. The frames 12 and 14 are supported at their bottom portions by removable tie rods 19 and 1% one or both of which are inserted through pockets formed in the bottom of the back portions of the material 16. Preferably a ring 28 is mounted above each spike to limit their penetration into the ground. The spikes are base components universally mounted in each of the free ends of the frames, as shown in FIG. 4, whereby the spikes may be swiveled into perpendicular position as they are inserted into the ground for effecting a more secure hold therein while the back rest is in use.
Various modifications of the back rest device may be effected by persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope and principle thereof as defined in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
l. A back rest comprising a pair of frames hinged together, each frame having removable tie rods for providing an impermanent support thereof, a flexible material removably secured to at least one of said frames, ground inserting spikes ball and socket mounted in the free end of each frame, and supported at the free end of the frames above said spike 2. A back rest as defined in claim 1, wherein said material is removably attached to both frames, being supported on said removable tie rods and snap-buttoned to the frames. I v
Claims (2)
1. A back rest comPrising a pair of frames hinged together, each frame having removable tie rods for providing an impermanent support thereof, a flexible material removably secured to at least one of said frames, ground inserting spikes ball and socket mounted in the free end of each frame, and supported at the free end of the frames above said spikes.
2. A back rest as defined in claim 1, wherein said material is removably attached to both frames, being supported on said removable tie rods and snap-buttoned to the frames.
