Abstract

A tray and an astral lamp for dental use are connected to a common support member in a fixed vertically spaced relation, the lamp and tray being individually rotatably attached to the common support member. The common support member is attached to the front end of an up and down swingable arm comprising a parallel link mechanism having a balancing spring, and the latter arm is rotatably mounted on a pole fixed on a dental unit or the like.

Description

BACKGROUND rectly or through a rotatable arm with an up and down swingable arm including a parallel link mechanism having a balance spring, the tray being attached to this swingable arm so as to be rotatable and changeable in direction. In the case of dental treatment, an astral lamp for illuminating the mouth of a patient is used and it has been usual hitherto for the astral lamp to be attached to a supporting mechanism for the tray as mentioned above. Hence, a dentist must adjust the height of the tray and also that of the astral lamp individually each time when he changes the posture of the patient by raising and lowering the seat portion of the chair or by raising and bringing down the back rest portion of the chair. Additionally the number of parts of the mechanisms is great and the manufacturing thereof becomes complex.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the invention is to provide a tray with astral lamp for dental use which avoids the above deficiencies associated with conventional constructions.
More specifically the invention contemplates a construction in which the tray and astral lamp' are supported from the swingable arm through the intermediary of a common support means by which the tray and lamp are held in a fixed vertical spacing.
In further accordance with the invention, the tray and lamp are supported from the common support means so that they each can be rotated in individual horizontal planes and the lamp additionally has a horizontal axis about which it is pivotable.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a side view of one embodiment of this invention in its condition of use; and
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of a portion of the same.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION Referring to the drawing therein is seen an embodiment of a supporting mechanism provided on a dental unit B integrally attached to a dental treatment chair A. Numeral 1 denotes a pole verticaly mounted at the top surface of the dental unit B, numeral 2 denotes an L- shaped rotating arm 2 rotatably mounted on the pole 1 and numeral 3 denotes'an up and down swingable arm comprising a parallel link mechanism b having a balance spring a, the swingable arm 3 being rotatably attached to the arm 2 and being provided at its front end with an attaching member 5 having an operation handle 4. Numeral 6 denotes a bent arm rotatably attached to the lower surface of the attaching member 5 and a holding frame 7' for an astral lamp 7, is rotatably attached to the lower end of the bent arm 6. The lamp 7 is mounted on frame 7' so as to be pivotable about a horizontal axis. Numeral 8 denotes a subsidiary arm rotatably attached to the lower surface of the attaching member 5 and numeral 9 denotes a bent arm rotatably connected to a shaft portion 10' of a tray 10 for receiving medical treatment tools, the bent arm 9 being rotatably attached to the subsidiary armi8.
ln the above construction, if the distance between the astral lamp 7 and the tray 10 is previously fixed at the most suitable distance for medical treatment at the time of manufacture and on use the handle 4 is operated in accordance with the position of the patient, the astral lamp 7 and the tray 10 are moved together while maintaining the predetermined fixed distance therebetween and the height of the astral lamp 7 and lthat of the tray 10 can be simultaneously changed to positions suitable for medical treatment. Thereafter it is only required that the direction of the astral lamp 7 -and that of the tray 10 are individually adjusted, and such inconvenience and. difficulty that their heights must be individually adjusted is eliminated. Additionally, the members 7 and 10 are connected through the bent arms 6 and 9 to the attaching member 5 attached to the front end of the swingable arm 3, so that in addition to the adjustment of the heights and the directions thereof which can be made as mentioned above, these members can also be moved towards and away from' the mouth of 'the patient. Also, when the upper half of. the patient's body is raised from a reclined condition or the patient gets off the chair, the tray 10 which has been positioned near-the breast of the patient at the time of medical treatment can be moved to a position at which it does not obstruct him by the vsimple operation of rotating the bent arm 9.

4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 comprising means supporting the lamp means from the fii'st bent arm for pivotable movement about a horizontal axis.
5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 4 comprising means supporting the tray from the second bent arm for pivotable movement about a vertical axis, which is horizontally offset from the vertical axis about which the second bent arm is supported from the common support.

A measuring device is movably mounted on the Chassis between the end measuring gears, and an independent transmission between the end measuring axles and the measuring device transmits the transverse movement to the respective end axle to the device. The combination'of the transverse movements of the two end measuring axles and of the center measuring axle moves the measuring device between the vend reference points a distance corresponding to the ordinate at the center'measuring point, this movement generating a proportional signal which is transmitted to an indicator or recorder.

Claims (10)

1. Apparatus for dental use comprising a vertical pole, a single arm extending generally horizontally and connected to said pole for up and down pivotal movement, said arm having a free end remote from said pole, a lamp means, a dental tray, a common support for said lamp means and tray by which the lamp means and tray are held in fixed vertically spaced relation, and means connecting said common support to said free end of said arm so that by moving said arm the lamp means and tray can be moved simultaneously while maintaining their fixed vertically spaced relation.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein said comprises a parallel link mechanism with a balancing spring.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2 comprising a first bent arm supporting the lamp means from the common support for rotatable movement about a vertical axis, and a second bent arm supporting the tray from the common support for rotatable movement about a vertical axis.
4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 comprising means supporting the lamp means from the first bent arm for pivotable movement about a horizontal axis.
5. Apparatus as claimed in claim 4 comprising means supporting the tray from the second bent arm for pivotable movement about a vertical axis, which is horizontally offset from the vertical axis about which the second bent arm is supported from the common support.
6. Apparatus as claimed in claim 4 wherein the common support comprises a support member pivotably connected to the link mechanism at the front end thereof, and a handle connected to said support member.
7. Apparatus as claimed in claim 6 comprising a dental chair, said pole being secure to said chair and means supporting the link mechanism from the pole for pivotable movement about a vertical axis.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 wherein said second bent arm includes first and second portions and a connecting hinge permitting relative rotation about a vertical axis.
9. Apparatus as claimed in claim 8 comprising a subsidiary arm connecting said second bent arm to said support member.
10. Apparatus as claimed in claim 7 wherein the means supporting the link mechanism from the pole comprises an L-shaped arm rotatably mounted on said pole, saId link mechanism being connected to said L-shaped arm.
