Another object of this invention is to provide a sleeve protector device of the type described, which will have an upper plate member which will extend partially into the upper extremity of the shoulder, the shoulder of the upper plate being in abuttment with the upper rim of the sleeve.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In the construction of large commercial buildings an architectural requirement of poured concrete floors involves the provision of permanently installed steel sleeves for subsequent installation of piping. Normally in the installation of the poured concrete floor, a wooden deck is first built which serves as a support for r the reinforce-l concrete floor. At this time, it is necessary to install the steel sleeves for the piping, which piping will be installed at a later time. Previously this has been doneby securing a section of steel pipe to the ply- I wood deck through the use of lugs or other fastening I V theinterior surface of the sleeve. Insofar as applicant is aware, no satisfactory method of preventing this 0ccurrence has been found. Presently, in applicants experience, the sleeves are stuffed with rags and newspapers so as to prevent seepage of concrete under the bottom surface and over the top surface of the sleeve as the concrete is poured and when the large vibrators are put into operation. This, of course, requires a subsequent cleaning of the sleeves and in almost all instances concrete is found on the interior bore of the sleeve, requiring further cleaning.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the present invention, there is provided a simple apparatus for preventing the seepage of concrete into the sleeve while the concrete floor is being poured. This invention involves broadly a bottom plate which fits snugly against the inner circumference of the sleeve and which is nailed to the woodendeck, forming the support for the concrete floor. A pipe or other cylindrical tie rod is placed so that one end is forced against the bottom plate and an upper plate is fitted over the pipe or cylindrical rod so that the rod or pipe projects therefrom. Thereafter, fastening meansare attached to the projecting portion of the pipe or tie rod in such a manner as to apply pressure to the upper plate and to the rod against both plates so as to effectively bring the upper plate into tight engagement with the upper surface of the sleeve and thereby prevent seepage of concrete into the sleeve during the pouring operation. Thereafter, upon tearing down of the forms, the upper and lower plates are removed along with the pipe or tie rod tying the two plates together, and the inferior bore of the sleeve permanently installed in the floor is clean and free of concrete.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a vertical side view of the present invention shown partly in section; and
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of FIG. 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT According to this invention, a sleeve protector 10 is shown to include a cylindrical sleeve member 11 in t which is carried at its lower most extremity is a removable plate 12 which is removably secured, by means of a plurality of nail fasteners 13, to the plywood deck 14. A plurality of radially spaced apart set screws 15 of collar 22 providing means of fastening the lower end of pipe 16 against plate 12. Pipe 16 extends through the central opening 17 of the upper plate 18 which includes an annular shoulder 19, the shoulder 19 enabling a portion of the plate 18 to be carried on the interior of the upper extremity of sleeve 11. A plurality of radially spaced apart set screws 21 of collar 23, provide a means of securing the upper portion of pipe 16 to collar 23 and to bring plate 18 into engagement with sleeve 11 to prevent concrete 20 from entering sleeve 11.
In use, plate 12 is nailed by nail fasteners 13 to the plywood deck 14 and pipe 16 is inserted into opening 16' of collar 22, after which the set screws 15 are tightened against the periphery of pipe 16 to thus render it stationary in a vertical position. The plate 18 is slipped over pipe 16 and theshoulder 19 of plate 18 abutts with the upper extremity of sleeve 11. The set screws 21 of plate 18 are tightened in collar 23 against the periphery of pipe 16 thus further securing, the plate 18 in tight engagement against sleeve 11 and thereby preventing concrete 20 from entering the inside of sleeve 11.
