4 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures GUARDED INSERT AND GADGET SUPPORTING DEVICE BACKGROUND OF INVENTION This invention relates generally to display devices, and more specifically to a guarded insert and gadget supporting device with means for guarding gadget displays which are associated with promotional material displays.
Among the objects of the present invention is the provision of means for guarding gadget displays associated with insert call-out card displays to provide safety for shopper movement as in supermarket aisles, and to secure the gadgets and other merchandise displayed for merchandise promotion purposes.
The foregoing objects, and others, as will become apparent in the course of the ensuing specification, are achieved in accordance with the present invention, by the provision therein of a novel guard portion operable, as below described, so that maximum protection is provided in promotion and gadget display toincrease the safety, efficiency and convenience of utilization of the display device.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS In accordance with the preferred mode of practicing the invention, the guarded insert and gadget supporting device 11 (FIGS. 1 and 2), for example, comprises a support portion 12, an upstanding loop portion 13, an extender hook portion 14, and a guard portion 15, and is supported in support means 16 (FIG. 2).
The support portion 12 comprises, (FIGS. 1 and 2), for example, a support end portion 20, withretainer projecting portions 21, 21', 21", 21 (shown) along the upper and lower portion thereof, which is rotatably journalled in the support means 16, and an outer end portion 22.
The upstanding loop portion 13(FIGS, 1 and 2), for example, comprises a first loop portion 30, which extends from the support portion outer end portion 12, a second loop portion 31, which extends from and adjacent to the first loop portion 30, and an outer end portion 32, which in the embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, provides a riser portion of substantially the same height as the height of the support portion outer end portion 32, for the call-out card.
The extender hook portion 14, for example (FIG. 1), comprises an extender support portion 40, upon which the gadget G is supported, which extends from the upstanding loop portion outer end portion 32, and a hook retainer portion 41, which is located'at the outer end thereof.
The guard portion 15 comprises (FIGS. 1 and 2), for example, a continuous loop portion 50, which extends about the extender hook portion 14, and a connection portion 51, where the guard portion 15 is mounted on the extender hook portion 14.
The support means 16 (FIG. 2) comprises. for example, a mounting clip 60, which includes apertures which are aligned and through which the support end portion 20 extends, and a mounting bracket 61 which may be mounted to a display cabinet including a shelf forward portion S.
In operation, for example, the guarded insert and gadget supporting device may be utilized to provide a call-out card display and gadget display in a promotional merchandising campaign, for example, in a' supermarket, by mounting the device to extend from a display cabinet shelf, so that the extender hook portion 14 would, for example, extend over a food section with the upstanding loop portion 13 supporting the call-out card for display to shoppers moving down the aisle, with the call-out card being retained in the upstanding loop portion 13 by being inserted between the first loop portion 30 and the second loop portion 31 (FIG. 1) and with the gadget being displayed by being supported on the extender hook portion 14. The promotional merchandising campaign could, for example, incorporate the use of a call-out card for tongs which'would be supported thereby, with the extender hook portion extending over a display cabinet containing corn, to attract the attention of a shopper purchasing corn, or other shoppers moving down the aisle, to purchase the tongs for use in handling the corn in boiling water. A great many other merchandising campaigns could incorporate use of the display extender hook therein.
The guard portion 15 extends about the extender hook portion 14 and is rigidly mounted to the upstanding loop portion outer end portion 32 to provide protection against injury to shoppers or store personnel in the vicinity which could result from direct contact with the extender hook portion 14, by providing a smooth continuous protective shield which will prevent injury upon contact therewith, and to provide a movable protective barrier which will yield upon contact therewith by turning with the support portion outer end portion 22 which is rotatably journalled in the support means 16 and which is connected to the guard portion 15 through the upstanding loop portion 13.
It is thus seen that the provision of the features described above enables the display of promotional callout card materials in conjunction with the display of associated gadgets in a convenient and efficient manner.
While the present invention has been particularly described in terms of specific embodiments thereof, it will be evident in view of the present disclosure that numerous variations upon the invention are enabled thereby without yet departing from the teaching thereof. Accordingly, the invention is to be broadly construed and limited only by the scope and spirit of the claims now appended hereto.
