Abstract

A cap-seal unit to be mounted on the neck of a bottle, which comprises a seal member adapted to be disposed on the neck of a bottle and having circular ribs on its surface in order to retain the seal member. A truncated cone strip is equipped with a progressively weakened wall, until reaching a skirt, for holding together the cap-seal unit. A wall is disposed concentric to the skirt, said skirt being arranged partly inside of the neck of the bottle. A flange extends from the lateral surface of the cap-seal unit, so that upon pulling the weakened wall and seal is separated from the cap.

Ross [57] ABSTRACT A cap-seal unit to be mounted on the neck of a bottle, which comprises a seal member adapted to be disposed on the neck of a bottle and having circular ribs on its/surface in order to retain the seal member.

7 /1/ I I I I I I I I I I I I I l 1 BOTTLE CAP SEAL The present invention relates to a bottle cap-seal which is received by and removable from the neck or throat of a bottle.
It is one object of the present invention to provide a bottle-cap seal, in particular a cap-seal, which remains outside of the neck or throat of the bottle and is held by circular ribs on the inner surface of the neck of the bottle, the cap being held together by a truncated cone strip with a progressively weakened wall until the skirt, presented by a stopper is reached.
With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent in the detailed description, the present invention will be clearly understood in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevation of the cap-seal unit, which comprises an upper part in its upper range, which upper part constitutes the cap itself including a plurality of ribs which are arranged parallel to each other and equidistant; and
FIG. 2 is a section of the cap-seal unit which includes a cap cover and peripheral zone being equipped with ribs which are disposed on its inner surface.
Referring now to the drawing, the cap-seal, designed in accordance with the present invention, comprises an upper part in its upper range which constitutes the cap itself and which has a plurality of ribs 4-which are disposed parallel to each other, as well as equidistant.
The lower area, which constitutes a separable seal, has a flange 5 which is adapted for the detachment operation.
As clearly shown in FIG. 2, a section of the cap-seal unit comprises parts 1 and 2 respectively, part 1 constituting the top of the cap-seal and part 2 constituting the peripheral portion of the cap-seal unit. The cap part 1 and the peripheral part 2 are joined by a substantially frustoconical peripheral zone 3 which is extremely weak and made of thinner material. Inside of the peripheral portion 2 are provided annular ribs 6 in such manner, that the top part 1 has a skirt 7 which fits into the neck or throat of the bottle.
The seal-cap operates in the following manner:
On the neck of the bottle, under a certain degree of pressure, the cylindrical skirt 7 is caused to enter through the mouth of the container at the same time as the neck itself is held between the skirt 7 and the area of the seal tube, the ribs 6 of which having wedge shaped extensions, bring about the correct retention of the cap-seal unit at the neck of the bottle.
In order to remove the cap-seal unit, it will suffice to pull on flange 5 (FIG. 1) which will produce a tear precisely through the area having the least thickness and therefore the detachment of the entire portion 2.
The lower end lb of the cylindrical outer part 1a radially inwardly overlaps the connected smaller upper end 3a of the truncated cone 3.
The ribs 4 extend into the upper portion of the truncated cone 3 in V-shaped points 4a.
An upper circular rib 6a is adjacent the truncated cone 3 and has a radially inwardly extending surface 6b,.and the other rib 6a constitutes an isosceles triangle.
While I have disclosed one embodiment of the present invention, it is to be understood that this embodiment is given by example only and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. A cap-seal unit to be mounted on the neck of a bottle, comprising a cylindrical separable seal portion adapted to be disposed on the neck of a bottle and having circular ribs on its inner surface in order to retain said seal portion, and upper cylindrical cap portion, a substantially frustoconical strip having a progressively weakened wall, weakening in a direction toward said cap portion, having a narrowmost weakest portion at its uppermost part connected to said cap portion and holding together said cap portion and said seal portion, a cylindrical skirt connected to said cap portion as well as disposed concentric to and radially inwardly spaced from said cap portion and said seal portion and said circular ribs of the latter, said skirt being adapted to enter inside of the neck of the bottle, and a flange means extending from the outermost lateral surface of said separable seal portion for, upon pulling said flange means, separating said weakened wall including said seal portion from said cap portion, said upper cap portion includes a disk shaped top which is connected to said skirt and a cylindrical part joined to said frustoconical strip, said cylindrical part having a diameter smaller than that of said seal portion, said cylindrical part has a plurality of straight axially extending ribs on its outer surface forming grooves therebetween and extending to V-shaped points at said frustoconical strip, said V- shaped points providing the weakened point of tearing between said cap portion and said frustoconical strip, one of said circular ribs is adjacent said frustoconical strip and has a radial directed top surface thereat, and another of said circular ribs is disposed spaced from one of said circular ribs and constitutes an isosceles triangle shape.
2. The cap-seal unit, as set forth in claim 1, wherein ping radially inwardly the former.

Claims (2)

1. A cap-seal unit to be mounted on the neck of a bottle, comprising a cylindrical separable seal portion adapted to be disposed on the neck of a bottle and having circular ribs on its inner surface in order to retain said seal portion, and upper cylindrical cap portion, a substantially frustoconical strip having a progressively weakened wall, weakening in a direction toward said cap portion, having a narrowmost weakest portion at its uppermost part connected to said cap portion and holding together said cap portion and said seal portion, a cylindrical skirt connected to said cap portion as well as disposed concentric to and radially inwardly spaced from said cap portion and said seal portion and said circular ribs of the latter, said skirt being adapted to enter inside of the neck of the bottle, and a flange means extending from the outermost lateral surface of said separable seal portion for, upon pulling said flange means, separating said weakened wall including said seal portion from said cap portion, said upper cap portion includes a disk shaped top which is connected to said skirt and a cylindrical part joined to said frustoconical strip, said cylindrical part having a diameter smaller than that of said seal portion, said cylindrical part has a plurality of straight axially extending ribs on its outer surface forming grooves therebetween and extending to V-shaped points at said frustoconical strip, said Vshaped points providing the weakened point of tearing between said cap portion and said frustoconical strip, one of said circular ribs is adjacent said frustoconical strip and has a radial directed top surface thereat, and another of said circular ribs is disposed spaced from one of said circular ribs and constitutes an isosceles triangle shape.
2. The cap-seal unit, as set forth in claim 1, wherein said frustoconical strip at its upper end is connected to a lower end of said upper part, the latter overlapping radially inwardly the former.
