4 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures THREE-'WAY SCREW DRIVER This invention relates to tools, and more particularly to a three-way screw driver.
It is therefore the principal object of this invention to provide a screw driver which will have a blade structure including three work edges, one of the edges terminating the blade end in a conventional manner and the other work edges being angularly disposed thereof.
Another object of this invention is to provide a screw driver device of the type described of which the blade portion will have oppositely opposed notches on the side edges of the blade, for the placement of a tool, such as a screw driver, file or other device, so as to apply pressure to the blade in order that it will dislodge a screw when the shank portion is rotated by the user.
Still'another object of this invention is to provide a screw driver of the type described which will have a shoulder portion in the notched areas whichwill prevent the tool that pressure is applied to from slipping out of the notch when the user is dislodging the screw fastener.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a screw driver device which is simple in'design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study. of thefollowing specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention shown in use;
FIG. 2 is a vertical view of the invention shown in elevation; and
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
According to this invention, a screw driver 10, consists of a handle 11 in which is fixedly secured a metal shank 12 which is terminated by a blade member 13. Blade 13 tapers to a surface edge 14 which may be used in the manner of the prior art. An adjacent edge surface 15 and oppositely opposed surface 16 provide a means for screw driver to be used inan angular position, rather than a vertical position in a manner which hereinafter will be described.
The edge surfaces and 16 of blade 13 terminate to form a shoulder 17 at one side of the notches 18,0f blade 13. When screw driver 10 is used for dislodging and removing'hard to rotate fasteners, it is held in the manner shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing. Either surface 15 or 16 may be used to dislodge fasteners, by the placement of a tool 19, such as a conventional screw driver, a file or other instrument within a notch 18 so as to enable the user to apply force to blade 13, thus enabling the user to forcibly dislodge screw fastener 20.
It shall be noted that the shoulder 17 portion at the notches 18 of blade 13 provides stop means to retain the too] 19 within the notch 18 when pressure is appliedby the users hand upon tool 19.
' It shall be noted further that edge surface 15 is larger than edge surface 16, the larger surface 15 providing a means for screw driver 10 to be used in slot 21 of screw fastener 20 when it is worn to a wider dimension.
7 What I now claim is:
l. A three-way screw driver tool comprising a metal shank, a handle carried by said shank enabling the user to grip said screw driver, a multi'ed ged blade carried by said shank providing for the user a choice of edge surfaces to be used within the slot of a screw fastener, shoulder and notch means carried. by said blade of said shank for the placement of a tool that may impart force to said blade so as to dislodge a screw fastener.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said shank of said tool is terminated at one end by its handle which is fixedly secured thereto and is terminated at the other end by said multi-ed'ged blade, said blade being tapered and having an end edge surface disposed adjacent to angularly disposed edge surfaces, one of which is larger than the other so as to be used in screw fasteners that have worn and wider slots, said angularly disposed edge surfaces being oppositely opposed to each other.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said angular surfaces of said blade form shoulder means on one side of the notch which receives said tool for applying pressure to said blade, said shoulder serving as stop means for the end of said tool, thus preventing it from slipping out of said notch when pressure is applied to said blade and-screw fastener to be dislodged.
4. The combination according to claim 3, wherein said notches of said blade of said shank are oppositely opposed to each other so that either of said angularly disposed surfaces may be used within the slot of a screw fastener in a similar manner, utilizing said tool within one of said notches for applying force to said screw fastener so as to dislodge it when said screw driver is moved in an arcuate path by the user when gripping the handle of said shank.

Claims (4)

1. A three-way screw driver tool comprising a metal shank, a handle carried by said shank enabling the user to grip said screw driver, a multi-edged blade carried by said shank providing for the user a choice of edge surfaces to be used within the slot of a screw fastener, sHoulder and notch means carried by said blade of said shank for the placement of a tool that may impart force to said blade so as to dislodge a screw fastener.
2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said shank of said tool is terminated at one end by its handle which is fixedly secured thereto and is terminated at the other end by said multi-edged blade, said blade being tapered and having an end edge surface disposed adjacent to angularly disposed edge surfaces, one of which is larger than the other so as to be used in screw fasteners that have worn and wider slots, said angularly disposed edge surfaces being oppositely opposed to each other.
3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said angular surfaces of said blade form shoulder means on one side of the notch which receives said tool for applying pressure to said blade, said shoulder serving as stop means for the end of said tool, thus preventing it from slipping out of said notch when pressure is applied to said blade and screw fastener to be dislodged.
