Abstract
A wobble riveting machine in the housing or stand of which there is arranged a lengthwise movably mounted guide body. A driving shaft having an eccentric mechanism is mounted in such guide body. According to the invention the guide body possesses a spherically constructed cradle or rocker. A wobble body member which can be pivoted to all sides by the eccentric mechanism is mounted in the cradle. At least one rivet tool or set is guided for lengthwise movement at the wobble body member, the latter being supported at the guide body.

. 1 WOBBLE RIVETING MACHINE BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a new and improved wobble riveting machine of the type wherein a lengthwise movably mounted guide body is arranged at the stand or support of the wobble riveting machine, a shaft having an eccentric mechanism and driven by a drive is mounted at the guide body;
With a known constructional form of wobble riveting apparatus there exists the difficulty, if not even in fact the impossibility, of arranging a number of rivet sets at a slight spacing from one another, by means of which it is possible to rivet an entire rivet arrangement or pattern in one operation. Further constructional forms of wobble riveting equipment have become known to the art by means of which a number of rivet sets can be also arranged with a smaller mutual spacing from one another. Nonetheless with these constructional forms of heretofore known equipment there prevails the limitation that it is not possible to arrange any rivet tool or set at the central region owing to the drive shaft mounted at that location.
7 With the state-of-the-art constructions of wobble riveting equipment the drive systemis loaded by the considerable axial forces which are transmitted by the rivet sets upon one or a number of axial bearings, partially rotating at high speeds.
According to a further prior art single-spindle construction of wobble riveting machine the axial forces are transmitted via a sliding cradle, but with this construction it is necessary to take into account considerable frictional forces. If there is finally also considered the relationship of the external diameter of the housing or stand of the wobble riveting equipment with regard to the available rivet arrangement with the known con- .struction employing a number of rivet sets then the space required for mounting and guidingis relatively large.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Hence, from what has been explained above it should be apparent that this technology is still in need of wobble riveting equipment which is not associated with the aforementioned limitations and drawbacks of the stateof-the-art constructions. Thus, a primary objective of the instant invention is to provide a new and improved construction of wobble riveting machine which is not associated with the aforementioned drawbacks and limitations of the prior art and effectively and reliably fulfills the existing need in the art.
Still a further significant object of the present invention relates to a new and improved construction of wobble riveting machine by means of which it is possible to rivet in a single operation a relatively closely spaced rivet arrangement.
Yet a further significant object of the present invention relates to a novel construction of wobble riveting machine which is relatively simple in design, economical to manufacture, relatively easy to use, extremely reliable in operation, requires a minimum of servicing and maintenance, and not readily subject tobreakdown and malfunction.
Now, in order to implement these and still further objects of the invention, which will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, the inventive wobble riveting machine of the previously considered character is manifested by the features that a spherical or ball-shaped cradle or rocker is provided for the guide body and in which there is mounted a wobble body member moved by the eccentric mechanism. At
least one rivet tool or set is guided for lengthwise movement at the wobble body member which is supported at the guide body. 7
By virtue of these measures there is simply realized the wobble motion, during which time there arise only relatively small speeds so that the bearing load is less. At the same time the relatively great riveting pressure is conducted to the stationary guide body sovthat the wobble body member is not loaded by axial forces. Additionally, there is achieved a favorable relationship of the external diameter of the wobble riveting machine with regard to the rivet arrangement.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING I necessary for understanding the underlining concepts of this development.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Describing now the drawing, there isillustrated therein a wobble riveting machine having a stand or housing 1 in which there is mounted for axial movement a guide body 5. A hollow column 6 is secured to the guide body 5 and carries a drive arrangement embodying a suitable non-illustrated drive motor which, in turn, drives a shaft 7 mounted in beatings 8 internally of the hollow column 6. This shaft 7 carries at one end an eccentric mechanism incorporating an eccentric pin member 9. The guide body 5 and thehollow column 6 are sealed by suitable elastic seals 10 and 11. The hollowcolumn 6 forms the piston rod of a non-illustrated thrust piston drive which is arranged at the upper region of the stand or housing 1 and which serves for raising, lowering and applying the requisite rivet force or pressure.
The guide body 5 will be seen to be provided with a recess or compartment 12 in which there is held by means of struts 15 a yoke 14 in which engages the eccentric pin member9, the struts 15 being anchored in a wobble body member 16. The latter-is provided at its periphery with a spherical region 17 by means of which the wobble body member 16 is supported through the agency of roller body bearings 18 in a spherically constructed cradle or rocker 19. This cradle 19 is supported at the edge of the recess 12 of the guide body 5 and simultaneously forms the guide arrangement for the guide body 5 at the stand or housing 1.
Now at the wobble body member or wobble body 16 there are provided bores 20 for receiving the rivet tools or sets 21. These rivet tools or sets are supported by a pressure plate 22 and a roller bearing 23 at a floor or base 24 supported at the guide body 5. This floor or bottom 24 is also provided with recesses 25 for the 3 throughpassage of the struts supporting the yoke 14.

It is important that the rivet sets 21 directly support themselves at the floor 24 without loading the drive system 7. Similarly the roller body bearing arrangement or support 18 is not loaded by any axial forces. The entire diameter of the wobble body member 16 is available for accommodating the rivet sets 21. With this arrangement the rivet pattern with respect to the diameter of the stand or housing 1 of the wobble riveting machine is relatively large.
While there is shown and described present preferred embodiments of the invention, it is to be distinctly understood that the invention is not limited thereto but may be otherwise variously embodied and practiced within the scope of the following claims. Accordingly,
What is claimed is:
1. A wobble riveting machine comprising a housing, a lengthwise movably mounted guide body arranged in said housing, drive means incorporating a driven shaft and an eccentric mechanism mounted at said guide body, said guide body possessing a substantially spherically constructed cradle, a wobble body member movable to all sides by said eccentric mechanism mounted at said cradle, a plurality of rivet sets guided for lengthwise movement at said wobble body member, said wobble body member being supported by said guide body, the riveting pressure being transmitted to the guide body to avoid loading of the wobble body member.
2. A wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said guide body is provided with a recess, a yoke attached to said wobble body member and extending into said recess, said eccentric mechanism of said driven shaft embodying an eccentric pin member which engages with said yoke.
3. A wobble riveting machine comprising a housing, a lengthwise movably mounted guide body arranged in said housing, drive means incorporating a driven shaft and an eccentric mechanism mounted at said guide body, said guide body possessing a substantially spherically constructed cradle, a wobble body member movable to all sides by said eccentric mechanism mounted at said cradle, at least one rivet set guided for lengthwise movement at said wobble body member, said wobble body member being supported by said guide body,
said guide body being provided with a recess, a yoke attached to said wobble body member and extending into said recess, said eccentric mechanism of said driven shaft embodying an eccentric pin member which engages with said yoke, a floor supported at said guide body, said yoke being arranged between the bottom of the recess of said guide body and said floor, said floor being provided with recess means, strut means supporting said yoke and extending through said recess means, said rivet set being supported at said yoke.
4. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 3, further including a movable pressure plate and roller bearing means arranged between said floor and said rivet set.
5. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said guide body together with said cradle consists of two components.
6. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said wobble body member embodies a spherical zone, roller bearing means for supporting said wobble body member through the agency of said spherical zone at said cradle.
7. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, further including an arm member secured to said guide body, impact means, said arm member guiding said wobble body by means of said impact means in the plane of riveting.
Claims (7)
1. A wobble riveting machine comprising a housing, a lengthwise movably mounted guide body arranged in said housing, drive means incorporating a driven shaft and an eccentric mechanism mounted at said guide body, said guide body possessing a substantially spherically constructed cradle, a wobble body member movable to all sides by said eccentric mechanism mounted at said cradle, a plurality of rivet sets guided for lengthwise movement at said wobble body member, said wobble body member being supported by said guide body, the riveting pressure being transmitted to the guide body to avoid loading of the wobble body member.
2. A wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said guide body is provided with a recess, a yoke attached to said wobble body member and extending into said recess, said eccentric mechanism of said driven shaft embodying an eccentric pin member which engages with said yoke.
3. A wobble riveting machine comprising a housing, a lengthwise movably mounted guide body arranged in said housing, drive means incorporating a driven shaft and an eccentric mechanism mounted at said guide body, said guide body possessing a substantially spherically constructed cradle, a wobble body member movable to all sides by said eccentric mechanism mounted at said cradle, at least one rivet set guided for lengthwise movement at said wobble body member, said wobble body member being supported by said guide body, said guide body being provided with a recess, a yoke attached to said wobble body member and extending into said recess, said eccentric mechanism of said driven shaft embodying an eccentric pin member which engages with said yoke, a floor supported at said guide body, said yoke being arranged between the bottom of the recess of said guide body and said floor, said floor being provided with recess means, strut means supporting said yoke and extending through said recess means, said rivet set being supported at said yoke.
4. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 3, further including a movable pressure plate and roller bearing means arranged between said floor and said rivet set.
5. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said guide body together with said cradle consists of two components.
6. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, wherein said wobble body member embodies a spherical zone, roller bearing means for supporting said wobble body member through the agency of said spherical zone at said cradle.
7. The wobble riveting machine as defined in claim 1, further including an arm member secured to said guide body, impact means, said arm member guiding said wobble body by means of said impact means in the plane of riveting.
