LOWELL H. SMITH, OF OWENSVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAM P-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 37,926, dated March 17, 1863.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOWELL H. SMITH, of Owensville, Olerinont county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Portable or Camp Stove; and I do hereby declare the following to beafull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification.
My improvement relates to the class of stoves adapted, when not in use, to be packed within convenient limits for removal; and my invention consists, chiefly, in a peculiar arrangement of fire-chamber in sliding sections, of which the uppermost section is supported at the desired height above the ground by suitable legs.
Figure 1 represents my stove set up for use. Fig. 2 shows the same packed for removal. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the same.
A B O are three cylindrical sections of wrought-iron, adapted, as shown, to be sup p)rted in pendent form from the upper one, A, by means of flanged rims D, as seen in Fig. 1, or to be closed wholly within said section A, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3. Sockets E in the upper section, A, receive legs F, which may be butt-hinged, in the manner shown, for
convenient stowage. The said legs F support the entire series of sections in their extended form entirely clear of the ground. The top of section, A, has a nozzle, G, for a short stovepipe, H, and has a boileropening, I, closable by a lid, J, which may be hinged to the top, or otherwise. The bottom of the lowest and smallest section, 0, has a grate, L, and ashpan M. The said section has also a side aperture, N, for stirring. The other ends of the sections are left open, except as to the flanges D, so as, when extended, to form a single tirechamber.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- The construction of a portable stove in flanged sections A B (3, adapted to be extended for use by the elevation of the upper section, A, on legs F, occupying sockets E, and when not in use to be slid within one another, in the manner set forth.
