Description

Unire@ Efrarrs PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE L. OUMMINGS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
iWlPlOVElvlENT EN CARRIAGE-JACKS.
Specification forming part ot' Letters Patent No. 37,902, dated March 17, 1863.
To all whom, it may concern.
Beit known that I, GEORGE L. CUMMiNGs, of the eity and county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Imlirovenients in Carriage-Jadis; and I do hereby deelare that the same is fully described and represented in the followin speeliieations and the accompanying letters, gures. and references thereof'.
Ot' the said drawings, Figure l denotes an end view. Fig. 2 denotes a side view. Fig. 3 represents a vertieal and central seetion of my improved jaelr.
In the drawings above referred to, letter A represents the base or feet, and letter B the upright side piece, all of which is made of hard wood or other material.
Letter' O, Fig. 3, represents an eeeentrio lever, with its fulerum at letter a, which lever, by bringing down, raises the slideArest, (letter 1),) lifting the earriageaxle, and at the same time looking,` the lever by its center resting' on thei'ulerum. Theslide-rest(letterD)isgnded up perpendieularly by two slots (letter E) in which a bolt and square collar or guide (letter b) passes through, and' the bolt fastened by a nut on the outside of the upright side (let- 'ter B.)
On the top of the slide-rest (letterD) notches, (letter F,) are made upon an angle, so as to adjust itself to the axle.
In Fig. 3 the dotted lines represent the p0- sition of the lever (letter C) and rest (letter D) while ready for use.
I do not claim the looking of the lever, as described, neither do I elaini the slot as a part of my invention; but
The combination of the eeeentrio lever C with the upright slide-rest D, by which the power to raise the axle is obtained, substantially as deseribed and set forth as above.
In testimony whereof I hereby and hereunto set my signature this 18th day ot' November, A. D. 1862.
GEORGE L. OUMMINGS.
In presence of- WALTER S. WEED, HENRY A. VANANDEN.
