STEM-WINDING WATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,974, dated March 6, 1888.
Application filed July 1,1887. Serial No. 243,082.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID FERRET, residing at Ne'nfchatel, in Switzerland,have invented a new and useful Improvement in Watches, (a patent having been granted to me in France May 28, 1887, No. 183,837,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a winding-up mechanism,whichis intended to be combined either with watches provided with the system of hand-setting described 'in my patent, No. 293,7 7 9, dated the 19th day of February, 1884., or with a similar hand-setting mechanism not actuated by the stem.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top view of the movement after withdrawing the plate P, which is separately shown in Fig. 2, and which is intended to cover the wheels shown in Fig. 1. Q and It are the hand-setting wheels disposed as in Patent No. 293,7 7 9, and actuated by means of a knob, as shown in said patent. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the winding up mechanism. Fig. 4 shows separately the crown and stem; Fig. 5, a section of the stem-pinion; and Fig. 6 an elevation of the crescentplate of the regulator.
In all the figures similar letters refer to similar pieces.
Upon the stem A there is aflixed a crown, S, and a disk, B, forming a groove, in which passes a screw, 0, eccentrically screwed through the pendant D. The pivot 64 ofA turns in a corresponding hole of the pillar N, which is affixed to plate 0. Said pillar N carries a screw, M, the head of which forms a pivot for the double wheel G H. The plate Pprevents the wheels G, H, I, Q, and It rising off their pivots. The wheel I is affixed to a squared portion of the mainspring-axis,and is normally in gear with H.
The wheel G is screwed to H, and has a range of click-teeth on its periphery corresponding to the teeth of the pinion E,which slides upon the stem A, and which is pressed against the wheel G by means of a spring, F.

E is provided with a round hole, into which is inserted a brass tube, 6, with squared hole.
The regulator K is provided with a vertical projection, K, which passes through the opening is of plate Hand to which is affixed a little crescent, L, provided with a projection forming a hand for indicating the position of the regulator and covering the opening it, so as to have no dust entering said opening. L is a ring which is afiiXed by screws to the plate P v to hold in place the glass 0, which allows the escapeinent to be examined without removing the plate P.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A winding-up mechanism for watches, composed of a stem, A, of square metal,affixed to the crown S, and a disk, B, and a pivot, a, combined with a screw, 0, passing eccentricall y through the pendant D, a spring, F, sliding pinion E, pillar N, screw M, and double wheel G H,substantially as shown and described,and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination,with the gears HM and stem-winding mechanism, of the plate P, that retains such gears in place, and is provided with an opening,and the movable crescent L, that is connected with the regulator, substantially as specified.
