SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378.891, dated March 6, 1888.
Applicationfiled July 9, 1857. Serial No. 2411819.
in Window and Picture Hooks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
My invention relates to that class of implements commonly known as combination implements.
My object is to produce an implement adapted to many different purposesinadwelling or place ofbusiness; and it consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and which are specifically enumerated in the clauses of claim hereinafter set forth.
It is constructed as follows:
A is a tubular shank to receive the handle upon one side, flattened and corrugated or roughened to adapt it for use in lighting matches, as at 1. The upper end of the bore of the shank opens outward, forming a hole, 3, which can be used to hold ataper for lighting gas, &c. Upon the right side of the shank is the ring 4, and connected to the ring is the elongated hook 5, in the top of which is a small opening, 6. It is operated as follows: When I desire to lower or raise the upper sash of a window, I insert the knob and stud into asocket set into the topbar of the sash and either pull down or push up. To light the gas,l insertalighted taper into the hole 3, or a lighted match into the opening 6, and turn the key ofthe gasfixture with thejaws 7. To put up or take down a picture, I insert the hook 5 through thecord and support the picture on the hook until placed where desired, and to dust off the ceilings or walls, cornices, moldings, &c., of a room,I pass the handle of the duster,inverted, down through thering 4, and I can tie or otherwise fasten the handle of the duster to the handle of the implement, ifdesired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An implement comprising a shank provided with a hole, 3, a handle-socket, jaws 7, a stud, 8, secured to the shank, a ring, 4, and a hook, 5, (provided with opening 6,) also secured to the shank,-substantially as described, for the purposes set forth.
