K HAND STAMP. n Y No. 378.065. vx Patented Feb. 14, 1.888,
WITNESSES f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN J. YEINKE, OE sOUTH PUEBLO, COLORADO.
HAND-STAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378.065, dated February 14, 1889. Application filed November 1, 1884. Serial No. 147,019. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN J. FINKE, a citizenV of the United States, residing at South Pueblo, inthe county of Pueblo andState of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HandStamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in hand-stamps; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a hand-stamp which is simple and effective in its construction and operation, strong and durable, easily handled and readily understood, and cheaply manufactured.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved stamp; Fig. 2, a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same.
Previous to my invention various forms of hand-stamps have been devised in which the type-carrier has been attached pivotally by connecting-arms to the base-plate, in such manner as to be moved upwardly and rear` wardly upon an inking-pad located in elevated position upon the back part of the base-plate, the type-carrier being moved upwardly and forward to make the impression at the front part of the base-plate. Such previous devices have, however, been so complicated in construction as to involve'objectionable expensiveness in manufacture, and as also to involve undue wear'and great care. in their use.
As will appear from the ensuing description, my improved stamp is very simple and durable in construction, and consequently'reliable in operation and inexpensive.
A represents a suitably-constructed frame or support, to which are'rigidly attached side pieces A', which side pieces serve to support an inking-pad, B.
C represents the type or stamp carrier, said type or stamp being attached to the under side thereof, in the usual manner. lThis carrier.l is provided with upwardly-bent ends C', to which are secured bars for attaching the same to the upright side pieces A.
D representsa bail, which consists of themenibers d dd,the member dbeing provided with a handle, D', which is attached centrally thereto. Theends of this bail arepivotallyattached to the upper corners of the side frames, A', as shown at a, and intermediately these arms o'r members d, are pivotally attached the upper portion of the side pieces C' of the stamp-carrier,
' as shown at b. Washers are interposed between the arms d' and side pieces C. Under the arms d are pivotally secured, both to the end.r
pieces C' -of the stamp-carrier and side pieces A', links F F, which will be parallel with the arms d. The arms F being pivoted to the inner side of the uprights A' necessitates providing slots c at the edges of the ink-pad support, through which said arms will pass when the type-carrying frame is brought above the inking-pad. 'The arms d F insure the typecarrying frame being brought paralleler flatly upon any object placed upon the platform vA under the stamp, and said stamp is also brought atly upon the inking-pad.
I claim- In a handstamp, the combination of the frame, arranged as described, vthe bail, fulcrumed at a to the sides of the frame, thestampcarrier, having its upwardly-bent wings pivoted at b to the legs of the bail, the link F, pivoted to one side of the frame and carried at points in vertical planes with the pivots a, b,
and the link F', pivoted to the other side of the frame and carrier at points oblique to the pivots a. b, whereby the bottom of the carrier A will be maintained parallel to the bottom of
