Abstract

A generally tubular lamp shade of flexible sheet material is provided with a flexible elastic ring embracing and secured to each of its upper and lower edges. Each ring has an inwardly extending resiliently bendable flange normally reversely curved to define an annular passage in which a metal ring is held by the resilience of the flange. The flange can be flexed to release the metal ring for removal so that the lamp shade may be flattened for storage or shipment and the metal ring may be reinstalled to erect the lamp shade for use.

[ 5 7 ABSTRACT A generally tubular lamp shade of flexible sheet material is provided with a flexible elastic ring embracing and secured to each of its upper and lower edges.
1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures NEW LAMP SHADE The present invention is a new lamp-shade which, due to its special mode of construction, can be folded when not in use, as in storage and transportation, and be unfolded, when it is desired, to be set up in a rapid and efective manner. Thus, the shade is sent from the place of manufacture to the retailer involved, dismantled and inside a flat cardboard box. This undoubtly is an innovation in that it reduces the necessary storage space, and also it avoids the dirtying of its panels by dust and'friction with other objects as the shade, as it has been mentioned above, is kept in a cardboard box which preserves it.
For the purpose of the shade is described, with accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1, represents the shade in perspective drawing, with parts in section to show how the shade is assembled with the ring of the metal frame.
In FIG. 2, part of the device for joining the shade to the frame can be seen The inventionmainly consists in that the shade 1 is manufactured of sheet material with plastic characteristics, that the ends of the sheet body are overlapped, forming a ring, and are secured to each other in any suitable manner and the top ring shaped edge and bottom ring shaped edge of said shade are provided with a hoop 3 of flexible material and very elastic which has a prehensile grooved jaw 4 in which the edge of the corresponding end 6 of the shade l is received from the base of the jaw 4 a prehesile loop or reversely curved flange of C-shape in section extends and which is formed by a curved side flake which is curved towards the jaw 4, and in which a ring of wire 7 is placed and set, in such a manner that the assembly of the shade is carried out by placing the ring (7) in the opening of the prehesile loop 5, said prehensile loop closing itself by its own elastic properties, by which the ring remains in the interior of same; to dismantle same, his only necessary to unroll the prehesile loop 5 and take out the hoop 7, and the panel of the lamp-shade l is flatenned for its storage and transport within the corresponding box.
While a single specific embodiment of the invention has been shown and described herein, it is to be understood that the same is merely illustrative of the principles involved and changes may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
1. A lamp shade, comprising:
a generally tubular member of flexible sheet material having upper and lower edges;
a generally U-shaped ring of flexible resilient material having parallel legs and a bight portion, said legs embracing each of said upper and lower edges and being secured thereto, each U-shaped ring having an internal flange, of generally C-shape in section, extending inwardly from its bight portion; and
a substantially rigid metal ring embraced and held by each flange to thereby hold said lamp shade in tubular form, said flanges being resiliently bendable to permit release and removal of said metal rings whereby said lamp shade may be folded to flat

Claims (1)

1. A lamp shade, comprising: A GENERALLY TUBULAR MEMBER OF FLEXIBLE SHEET MATERIAL HAVING UPPER AND LOWER EDGES; A GENERALLY U-shaped ring of flexible resilient material having parallel legs and a bight portion, said legs embracing each of said upper and lower edges and being secured thereto, each Ushaped ring having an internal flange, of generally C-shape in section, extending inwardly from its bight portion; and A SUBSTANTIALLY RIGID METAL RING EMBRACED AND HELD BY EACH FLANGE TO THEREBY HOLD SAID LAMP SHADE IN TUBULAR FORM, SAID FLANGES BEING RESILIENTLY BENDABLE TO PERMIT RELEASE AND REMOVAL OF SAID METAL RINGS WHEREBY SAID LAMP SHADE MAY BE FOLDED TO FLAT FORM.
