6 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures PATENTEDUEC 4 I975 POSITION l POSITION 2 POS|T|ON3 HAND LOOM SUMMARY OF INVENTION DRAWINGS FIG; 1 Isometric view of one end of heddle rods showing shaped supporting member A and its attachment to side frame member of loom B by elastic band C.
FIG. 2 Section through loom showing both heddle rods D, both supports A, and elastic band ties C.
FIGS. 3a-c: Elevational views showing the three positions of the shaped heddle rod support A and the resulting shed formations.
DESCRIPTION Referring to FIG. 1, flat shaped pieces A are attached to side frame members of loom B by an elastic band C which connects to heddle rod( s) D. Two heddle rods D are supported near the ends by the shaped pieces A.
One heddle rod supports heddles secured to selected warp threads E. The other heddle rod supports heddles secured to the remaining warp threads F. FIG; 2 shows a typical tie-up. In operation the two heddle rod supports A are manually oscillated. Referring to FIG. 3, with shaped pieces A in Position 1 a shed is formed with warp threads E up and warp threads F down. With shaped pieces A in Position 2 state is reversed and alternate shed is produced with warp threads F up and warp threads E down. With shaped pieces in Position 3 both sheds are closed and all warp threads are aligned. Shaped pieces A are designed for size of open shed desired. Normal shed will open about 1% inch maximum.
I claim:
1. In a weaving loom having a pair of parallel spaced frame members, a pair of heddle rods extending normal to said frame members and spaced therefrom, a heddle rod support releasably supported on each of said frame members and engageable with and supporting end portions of each of said pair of heddle rods, each of said heddle rods supports having a plurality of angularly related surfaces for selective engagement with said frame members, and resilient means for retaining said heddle rod supports and the heddle rods supported thereby on said frame members in selected positions with respective ones of said surfaces engageable with and supported by said frame members.
2. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 in which each of said heddle rod supports comprises a generally flat member having edge portions defining said angularly related surfaces.
3. Apparatus as set forth in claim 2 in which at least three flat edge portions are provided to define three angularly related frame-engaging surfaces.
4. Apparatus as set forth in claim 3 in which the axes of said heddle rods are parallel to the planes of said surfaces, and each of said heddle rods are equally spaced from one of said surfaces.
5. Apparatus as set forth in claim 4 in which a second and third of said surfaces define obtuse angles with said first surface.
6. Apparatus as set forth in claim 1 in which said resilient means includes an elastic tie band engageable with each of said heddle rods and with said frame member.
