SHUTTER MECHANISM FOR PHOTOGRAPHIC CAM ERAS.

Be it known that I, .MATHIAS FLAMMANG, of Newark, county of Essex, State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shutter Mechanism for Photographic Cameras, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to shutter mechanism of the kind known as fly-shutter mechanism, and which is employedininst-antaneous photographs.
The object of the improvement is to provide a simple, cheap, and efi'ective means whereby a spring employed for efiecting the fly-shutter may have its force varied to expedite or reduce the rapidity of the fly-shutter.
I will describe an apparatus embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompaning drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a board or piece arranged in the front portion of the case of a camera. Fig. 2 is aback view of the same.

A designates a board or piece which is arranged in the front portion of the case of a camera. Itis provided with a circular opening which is to be opposite the lens-tube of the camera.
B designates a disk,which may be made of thin metal, india-rubber, or like material, and is provided, as here shown, with two circular holes. It is arranged adjacent to the front side of the board or piece A. At the center it is mounted on a shaft, 12, which is supported in the board or piece A and in a frame, a, affixed to the latter. A pulley, b, is arranged at the front of the disk, and another pulley, b, is arranged at the rear of. the board or piece A. These pulleys are mounted upon the shaft b and may rotate thereupon. They and the disk are secured together, so as to move in unison. A simple way of securing them together is to extend a hub from one of the pulleys through the disk and into the other pulley. A cord,0, is fastened to the pulley b, passed around the same, and connected to a pull-piece, O. A cord, 0 is connected to the pulley b and after being wound around the same is connected to a spring, D.
The spring D consists of a piece of wire wound around a stud, d, and having one end extended to another stud, (Z and the other end extended over beneath the pulley b so as to form a long arm. The disk B is shown as provided with a projection, b*, which, when the disk is rotated by moving out the pull-piece,will comein contact or piece A. This projection, when the disk is rotated in the opposite direction, will engage with a spring-detent, I). When the disk shall have been rotated as far as possible by the pull-. piece, a spring-actuating detent, E,will engage with a notch in the edge of the disk to retain the disk in position. This detent is provided with a hand-piece, e, which may be pressed upon to disengage the detent and release the disk. Whenever the disk shall be thus released,the spring D will unwind the cord 0 and thereby rotate the pulley I), the disk B, and the pulley b. The rotation of the pulley 1) causes the cord 0 to be wound upon it again.

It will be seen that the mechanism which I have provided for varying the speed of the flyshutter is simple, cheap, and withal very effective.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a fly-shutter mechanism of a photographic camera, the combination of a board or piece provided with an opening, a rotary disk supported by said board or piece, a pulley secured to said disk, a cord wound upon said pulley, a spring having an integralportion constituting an arm connected to said cord, and a lever havingaprojection impinging upon the said arm of the spring, substantially as specified.
